2000 Volkswagen Bora GLS 2.8 Vr6 from North America

Faults:

Trunk release.

Climate control illumination.

Inner tie-rod ball joint dried out.

Stereo audio functions went bad.

Previous owner only had windows fall in and Air flow meter replaced.

General Comments:

Great car, no problems yet at all. Dealer is great! Fixes everything for me and even gives me a loner car.

My only problem is the transmission, getting out of first sucks and going into second sucks, rest are fine. Suspension is sloppy, but hard at the same time. Seats are a bit uncomfortable. Gas mileage not the greatest. Otherwise the car is great. I will always buy a Volkswagen, Always have!

2000 Volkswagen Bora 1.9 TDI Comfortline 1.9 turbo diesel 90hp from Luxembourg

Summary:

Underpowered and Unknown Well Design

Faults:

Timing belt became very loud at around 45000 km. (replaced by dealer).

H7 lamps and some other exterior lights had to be replaced occasionally.

(replaced them my selves, dealer is too expensive for these 'small' things).

Light behind the heater operation switches does not work (very difficult to operate when driving in dark).

(a lot of Volkswagen without the climate control panel have this)

Tweeter of the speaker system failed to work at 90,000 km at the driver's side.

General Comments:

Very comfortable car.

Extremely well made, fit and finish.

Very modern inside and outside lines.

Little small in the back, but this is made up with the very roomy trunk of the car.

All the options you need on a car:

Rain sensor, air conditioning, 4 headrests, comfort seats, double airbags and side bags.

I think it's a pity that there is not a standard 8 speaker system on this car, and the 90 horsepower engine is a little to underpowered for a 1230 kg heavy 4 door sedan.

2000 Volkswagen Bora V6 4motion 2.8 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great car, if only insurance was cheaper

Faults:

No major problems experienced. The only minor problem had been the remote fob won't open the central locking for some reason, the key worked in the lock OK.

General Comments:

Extremely reliable.

Servicing doesn't cost noticeably more than other engines. Major service less than 200 quid.

Small boot in the V6 compared to other engined Bora.

Space saver spare wheel.

Group 16 or 17 insurance!

4 wheel drive works a treat, the traction control only ever came on once in two years over a ridge.
