2000 Volkswagen Cabrio from North America

Summary:

Although cute, I would only want my enemies to purchase a Volkswagen Cabrio

Faults:

Alternator has gone out twice. Once at 18,000 and then at 32,000.

A/C has been repaired 3 times.

Fuel system problems with many components.

Many, many electrical problems.

In the two and a half years, the car has been in for unscheduled service nearly 20 times.

General Comments:

My wife wanted this car because it was cute. I have never personally encountered a new car with so many problems.

Volkswagen seems to have no concern for the problems encountered with this vehicle. They seem to have more loopholes in their pathetic excuse for a warranty than I can count.

In addition, this car seems to be designed so that repairs must be made by a mechanic. I have never in my life seen a front brake assembly so difficult to work with.

2000 Volkswagen Cabrio GLS 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Sweet car with many minor issues

Faults:

The ignition switch went bad (meaning the brake lights would stay on and wipers would not work.).

Hand rests on both sides are peeling.

The leather on arm rests in back are separating from car.

The drivers side molding continues to fall off.

The air conditioner light is burned out.

My black leather seats are turning red and developing cracks, even though I take very good care of them.

When car is running the idling doesn't sound healthy, it sounds as if the car may cut out. The dealership would not do anything about it, assuring me that it will not cut out.

General Comments:

The car is cute and so much fun to drive.

It receives so many compliments and so much attention from other motorists.

The dash lights up an awesome bluish-purple.

The driving is smooth and the steering is tight.

When your car was idling rough did anything ever happen, or did it just continue? I just had my transmission rebuilt and now it is idling heavy and I am trying to figure out what could be wrong.
