2008 Volkswagen GTI 2.0 FSI from North America

Summary:

Fast, reliable, and beautiful

Faults:

The only thing I can say bad about this car is the cloth and cloth side panels scratch very easily.

Also the paint quality could be better, and the car interior quality could be better.

General Comments:

This car handles like no other, and it's also very quick. When I leased this car, I had a choice of getting the GTI in silver auto or the black with the 6 speed on the lot in October 2007. I had to get it in black. When I first looked at the car, I didn't know if I liked the body style, but when I looked a little closer it was beautiful. So far it's been about a year and there haven't been any problems with it, besides a flat tire.

The cost isn't cheap to fuel this baby up with premium gas, but it well worth because it gets better mpg. If you're planning on not changing your own oil, you're going to pay $120+ for the dealership to do it.

The dashboard and the look of the interior is awesome, it's a eye catcher. I'm planning on buying it after 2 years if doesn't have serious break down, which I don't think it will because this car is solid.

Everyone likes it. I haven't met someone that didn't like it. Also it can keep up with the WRX.

It's pretty roomy for a small car, but if you're over 6 feet it might not have enough room for you. The backseats don't fold down the whole way, which could be a problem if you're trying to fit anything big in the back.

Another thing I love about this car is the blue gauges. I saw they are changing them to white for the 2010 GTI. Why change something that looks good?

If you want something fast, reliable and that looks good, the 2008 GTI is what you need to get.

2008 Volkswagen GTI 2.0 from North America

Summary:

I like my pocket-rocket

Faults:

I had a bubble in the low profile tire - right front. The dealer offered me a warranty on the rims (18") & tires when I purchased the car - I went for this warranty and am glad I did. Tire was replaced for free.

General Comments:

This is quick car, no questions about it and I was impressed with the way the car gets up from a full stop.

Handling is off the charts - this car corners and handles great; tons of fun. I opted for the 18 inch rims and would recommend them to new buyers (enjoy exit/entrance ramps on highways!)

Interior is very comfortable - I do about 50 miles round trip a day, and can say the GTI is a pleasure to drive both in comfort and cost. Leather/heated seats are great!

Car is a head-turner; no matter where I am or what I'm doing (parked, at a red light, etc) there's always someone that stares at the GTI - it's a cool looking car no doubt.

2008 Volkswagen GTI 2.0 FSI turbo from North America

Summary:

High quality... Great fun factor... Great Car!

Faults:

Nothing as of yet but there are reports of diverter valve failure and downpipe failure being common.

These parts are 100% covered by warranty, and cheap if you are no longer on warranty.

General Comments:

Honestly, I can't say enough about this car. The quality of the build is fantastic, and the engineering is amazing. For a daily driver, or a summer fun car, it's perfect.

Every small detail is very well thought out, and there are so many little details that make it a pleasure to drive. Everyday I find something new about it.

Yes, it's fast. It goes like a bat out of hell if you want it to. You don't really notice the speed because it handles so well. These little cars stick to the road like glue.

The "automatic" DSG transmission is an amazing piece of technology. A Manual transmission with 2 automatic clutches!!! You have 100% control over it when you want. It's nothing like the typical auto transmission with a "manual mode". It's actually the other way around!

Comfort wise, the cloth (interlagos) sport seats are a lot better than one would think. They hug your body and keep you firmly in place when taking a quick corner. they are even comfortable on a long commute.

I really have no complaint about this car at all.

As far as running costs. It does take premium gas, which is expensive, but with the distance you go on one tank, it more than makes up for it. I usually get around 530kms city and around 680kms highway.

The regular service can be pricey, but there are no real repair costs, so it's all good. Don't believe what you hear about import parts being more expensive. Parts themselves are actually cheaper than parts for my chevy.

Service from the manufacturer and dealerships is second to none. They stand behind their product. The only drawback is the parts do come from Germany, so there is a wait at times. For example, my stereo was scratched when I bought it (detailing guy scratched it) I've had the car 8 weeks and the new stereo still hasn't arrived from Germany.

For major issues (mechanical) the dealership can have you turned around and back on the road the same day. VW always gives you a nice courtesy car as well.

If you are considering this car. Do it. You will have no regrets.
