I SO hope what your saying is true because I would LOVE to be able to buy another VW GTI and feel I'm making a smart purchase.

I had a 1989 GTI 16v that was the best car I ever owned. I drove it to 320,000 miles and ONLY sold it because I found a beautiful 1996 Jetta GLX VR6 that I thought would be even better and more reliable... BIG MISTAKE because that 1996 Jetta was NOTHING, but TROUBLE. Many problems, Costly Repairs that went into the thousands, Cost me a LOT of Time, Money and Stress. I finally had to sell it (to get out from under the problems) and buy a Honda.

I truly hope VW has finally sorted their problems out because there are a LOT of loyal VW customers out here that would love to trust them again.

The GTI is an fun car to drive, but just wait, it is VW and the electronics are going to go just after your warranty is up. I know, I am VW mechanic and also they love to use oil. I honestly like the Audi line better if you're a German fan, even though they share VW ideas they have way less problems. I would buy Japanese before I ever owned German.

I am forced to disagree with the above comment. my friend owns an 07 A3 S-Line that he got new and it's been a nightmare. Creaks and rattles abound, burns oil, and both local Audi service departments have given him subpar treatment. Currently he is fighting Audi to have a noisy front wheel bearing replaced under warranty that for some inexplicable reason, they won't cover him for because of a seized axle bolt!?! Right now he's just counting the days until his lease is up so he can get rid of the thing and buy something Japanese.
