2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6 from North America

Faults:

Well, like others, I'm reading these comments and wondering if I wrote them. I have had nothing, but problems since purchasing my Jetta GLX. Here is a list:

1. 2 weeks after purchasing, 3rd gear went out. Covered by warranty

2. Driver side power window slipped and exploded in door - Covered by warranty

3. Check Engine Light - Emissions Workshop - this has occurred numerous times, often it occurs when the gas cap isn't double clicked. I brought it to the dealer last year and they replaced my spark plugs, wires, and engine coil (over 1000.00 worth of work at under 55k miles). This fixed the issue temporarily. Once again the check engine light is on, Emissions Workshop.

4. The engine cooling fan does not turn off in cold temperatures, this resulted in me burning through 2 car batteries. I finally had to take out the fuse that controlled the fan to ensure I didn't burn through another battery. When I took it to the shop, they couldnt recreate the issue.

5. Taking your foot off the gas while in 5th gear causes the gear shift to pop out of 5th gear, in essence reducing me to only 4 gears.

I'm writing to VW of America and to the BBB in hopes that they will take this piece of garbage off my hands. If they can't, I'm going to fix the problems and sell or trade in this vehicle asap.

General Comments:

I fell in love with the car when I test drove it. When its not having the above issues, it handles great and is very comfortable. Unfortunately, my overall experience has been tainted by the above issues. I will not purchase another VW.

2000 Volkswagen Jetta VR6 2.5 V6 from North America

Summary:

Lemon

Faults:

I have VW Jetta VR6 with only 38000 miles (it was in storage for 3 years).

I had flat tire the other day, no problemo, wrong LOL. My trunk won't open, the key doesn't work, and the button from the inside doesn't work.

General Comments:

Please drop a E-mail to the NHTSA so they can add trunk issues as recalls.

2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLX from North America

Faults:

Multiple check engine light/emissions workshop issues.

When trying to put up the rear driver side window, it will go halfway up, then go back down. I have to push the up button 2-3 times to get it all the way up.

Clip/spring that holds the center console together broke.

One hing on my glove box broke.

Clips on the front driver side bumper broke off. I have the bumper screwed on.

Rear cup holder/holders don't open. I bought the car with it broke, but didn't notice for a while after I bought the car.

Car has been towed at least 2 times b/c it wouldn't start. I forget what the issues were, they were covered under my certified pre-owned warranty.

General Comments:

I love the look and feel of the car, but, having issues from day one makes this car not reliable nor worth having.

The certified, pre-owned warranty was great and covered every issue I had. But, once that ran up, repairs are outrageously expensive!

Don't recommend this car.

2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Why would I buy another one?

Faults:

I thought I was the only one with a Jetta that seems to be falling apart. I have a broken glove box, cup holders that snapped apart 4 months ago, the temp. gauge that is faulty, and a brake light that stays on all the time. I have had to fix the driver's side visor because the mirror cover snapped off, causing the light above the visor to stay on all the time. The passenger side marker light fell out, it would literally pop out of the frame and dangle by its wires. I had to get this fixed, of course. My driver's side heated mirror is corrording horribly; my cd changer is ruined- I had to have a regular cd player installed. My rear brake lights stayed on all the time--VW paid for the sensor to be replaced, apparently it was a recall problem. VW also paid to have my hazard light switch replaced. I like my cute Jetta, but this car has certainly made me hesitant to buy another one. I am tired of things breaking!
