2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8 turbo from North America

Summary:

Lemon for sale

Faults:

My driver's window fell into the door. Two weeks later, the passenger window fell into the door.

Replaced O2 sensors @ 12000, 30000, 70000, 140000 kms.

Coil ignition packs replaced 9 times, 6 this year alone after learning of the factory recall. The dealer does not seem to want to deal with this issue, and will no longer cover replacement.

General Comments:

This car always received regular maintenance and was well cared for. What was once my dream car ended up being my worst nightmare. It's easy to overlook some of the minor issues, but the coil pack problem and the fact that VW let us Jetta owners hang out to dry without rectifying the issue, ensures that myself, nor any family member or friend will ever purchase a VW product again. Shame on you Volkswagen.

2002 Volkswagen Jetta from North America

Summary:

It has been a great car, and worth the minor inconvenience of the little things that have gone wrong

Faults:

Almost all of the issues I have had with the car have been electrical, and more annoyances than things that would affect its performance.

Tail lights short out frequently - I have replaced one of them at least a couple of times a year since the car was only a couple of years old.

Recently the cigarette lighter stopped working. We replaced the fuse, which fixed the problem for a few weeks, but now it's not working again, even though the fuse is fine. I got fed up having to charge my phone, iPod, or GPS in my trunk, and finally bought a 12v extension cord so I could run it from the trunk to the driver's seat!

Door ajar light (and all interior lights) comes on for no reason at times while driving... and then goes back out again if you ignore it long enough.

When you open the door, the interior lights don't always come on as they should.

A check engine light has been on for almost 2 years now. I have it checked periodically to be sure it's not something new, but they always tell me the same thing - a bad sensor that will cost a couple of hundred dollars to replace, but is essentially useless, so I just keep ignoring it.

Windshield washer fluid light goes on and off at will any time the reservoir is less than half full. This would be inconsequential, if not for the dinging that accompanies the light every time it comes on.

General Comments:

With all the miles on it, and the length of time I've owned the car, I've never really had any major engine or other repairs (knock on wood).

It has always driven well and been reliable, especially considering the extremely cold temperatures we have in Northern Maine winters.

There is a lot of trunk and cargo space, which I've loved with frequent traveling.

Even with the annoyances of all the weird electrical problems, I have really loved this car.

General Comments:

To whom it may concern:

I would like to make a complaint regarding my 2002 VW Jetta 1.8 T. I've had this car for 14 months. This car has been nothing but problems. Every time I get something fixed on this car, something else goes wrong. I would not recommend Volkswagen to anybody in the market to buying a car. There are way too many problems with 2000-2005 models. My mechanic doesn't want to see this car back in his shop because I'm there just about every other weekend for something that went wrong. The car will not pass emissions unless a $1000 repair gets done! My seats and ceiling are falling apart. The carpet needs replacing. This car is horrible car to own inside/outside all around. Like I stated above, I would not recommend or refer anyone to Volkswagen, due to my experience with this car!!!

This message will be posted on Internet, as well, for a rating review on Volkswagen, as a whole. I was so disappointed, because I thought these vehicles were very good cars.
