2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8 turbo from North America

Overpriced Piece of Junk

Adjusted sub frame, new alignment, didn't fix it.

Replaced strut rod bearings. Fixed this time.

Flip key would not lock in place.

Starter went at 88540km.

Heater control bulb burned out at 88540 km.

Check engine light on for thermostat at 94640 km.

Also replaced alternator at 94640 km.

Recall on brake light switch at 94640 km.

Water pump failed at 94717 km. Left me on the side of the road. Had to be towed.

General Comments:

The car is nice to drive and handles like a dream.

The car's just asking to rev past 6000 rpm. I love the turbo.

I thought my Lincoln LS had problems. I've never seen so many problems with a car in so little time. I've had it for 6 months and it's been to the dealer 6 times, and for numerous problems every time.

The car likes to grind gears when it wants to. Sometimes you can't even get it into first gear.

I have taken good care of this car and it has given me nothing but problems. If I didn't have the warranty with this car I'd probably be living in it, because I wouldn't have any money to pay the bills.

Going to try to get my money back.

2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI from North America

Summary:

I used to own a Jetta and I loved it. Now I do not feel like I own a reliable car

Faults:

I purchased car in June 2006.

We have had the MAF (mass air flow sensor) replaced after the car would 'put-along' at 20 mph even with my foot to the floor.

The check engine light has come on numerous times - replaced the turbo sensor.

My radio stopped working 2 weeks ago (#42 fuse worked). Now my car is dead.

We also replaced trunk struts because the trunk was extremely difficult to open.

2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8 turbo from North America

Summary:

Bad car, unreliable, dont buy it.

Faults:

Driver-side heated seat caught fire.

Headlamps replaced 3 times in 3 years.

Front (right side) window mechanism broke TWICE.

Front (left side) window mechanism broke once.

Rear axle needed to be replaced after lightly bumping into a curb in the snow.

Two knobs on the radio broke off.

3 of 4 speakers blew (possibly from playing them too loud... but I don't think so)

Dashboard went dead - nothing worked at all (it later came back to life without repair)

Transmission is giving me trouble now, it takes a long time to shift between gears (2 seconds at times)

General Comments:

VERY UNRELIABLE.

The car was fun to drive fro 1 year, after that it was repair after repair.

I'm trying hard to sell it now, but no one wants it.

I will never buy another Volkswagen or Audi, and never recommend it to anyone.
