2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T from North America

Summary:

A high performance nightmare

Faults:

First both the driver-side and passenger-side front windows broke. While it was raining.

Then the windshield-washer tank sensor broke. Indicator light remained on regardless of the washer-fluid level.

Now the notorious coils have gone. Leaving me with a loaner Chevy Lumina from the dealership for an uncertain amount of.

General Comments:

At first I was excited about the power and all the features of this car.

Now I'm missing my Jeep and wish I had never traded it in.

2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8 turbo from North America

Summary:

A unreliable car that puts the consumer in a dangerous situation

Faults:

The tint on my windows has peeled off.

The mirror casing on the passenger side of the car flew off while I was driving on the highway.

Plastic coverings of vents, etc. throughout the car have fallen off.

Three out of four coils have gone bad.

The car stutters when it has less than one half a tank of gas.

General Comments:

I have always loved Volkswagens. They are good looking cars. It just seems that the newer the model is the more poorly it is made. This is my last Volkswagen.

2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8t from North America

Summary:

A fast, beautiful, German engineered performance bargain!

Faults:

The only problem I have had with my vehicle is that the sunroof got stuck. However, after leaving it alone for a few minutes, the problem mysteriously solved itself and never reoccurred.

General Comments:

I love this car!

The 1.8 Turbo is the best engine I have ever had in a vehicle. It is reliable and there is no noticible turbo lag. It sounds great and pulls even better!

The only downside is that it requires premium gasoline, but I don't mind paying a bit extra for the excellent performance I get back.

The interior is very luxurious (i opted for the leather and sports packages) and the fits in the interior are impressive.

The car looks great and I love the rims (I have the optional 17 inch rims from the sports package)

The stereo rocks (I have the optional monsoon sound system)

The service I have received from the dealership has been excellent and they even gave me a free extended warranty when I bought the vehicle!

2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8t 1.8 turbo from North America

Summary:

Nice car, but definitely not recommended

Faults:

As soon as the cold weather hit 2 ignition coils went and were replaced.

Within 3 weeks the other 2 ignition coils also went and were replaced.

3 weeks later the ignition coils fail once again.

Luckily all the coils died during start up and not while traveling.

General Comments:

The styling of the car is wonderful. Ride is nice, performance is decent. But this car is simply not reliable. One can't take the chance of getting up in the morning and not having their car running correctly.

This is my second Jetta. My first, a VR6 I returned because I was having so many problems with it (head gasket (1200km), major oil leak (5,600km), and timing belt (10,000km). I thought I would give VW a second chance. Now I wish I didn't.

I drive a 2000 VW Jetta 1.8t. I love my car and drool over its very existance. My Jetta makes my life complete and too hear such derogatory comments about another Jetta makes my stomach churn. Please prase the Jetta and make it your new god.

2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T from North America

Summary:

Was I fooled?

16,000 miles- engine light came on, car hesitated, emitted a strong smell and ceased running. Towed to dealer. Been in the shop for 1 month due to 2 engine coils gone bad and the dealer is unable to get the parts to even start a repair.

General Comments:

May never see my car again and at this point I hope they burn it.
