Wow, I seriously cannot believe what I read. I have a Jetta 2001 GL... and let me just tell you that I've pretty much had all the problems posted above. My main problem is that EPC light coming on, causing my car to shift in a slow gear and... sometimes my car won't even go. Its soo annoying and I'm sick of putting money into fixing it and fixing it all over again. Gosh, I can't wait to get rid of this piece of junk.

Oh, and I have major front bumper problems, its like they glued it on when they made it. I'm interested about that "Lemon Law"...I'm going to check that out.

Hi fellow VW drivers,

Well I bought a 2000 Jetta GL 2.0. I actually love this car. But as a lot of other people my engine light has been on almost as long as I have owned the car (80000 miles) The only other this I have had go wrong is the oil pan being striped out by an oil changing station. That really stunk. O well what can you do.

I have had this 2001 Jetta for 18 months and three times it has been stuck in park. Yesterday I got stuck again and the EPC light is on and I don't know what to do. It is sitting at my job and I am afraid to take it in to the dealer because of all the horror that I have heard. I thought I was alone. I also have problems with the oil pan. It has been stripped and was sold to me like that. Otherwise I love the car, but now I am stranded. What's a girl to do? Oh yeah my brake lights have been out three times in the last 18 mos also.

Hello, I am a fellow VW sucker as well...

I have a 2001 VR6 5-Speed. I have had the coil pack replaced twice. I have had the rear brakes done twice. I have had the wires and plugs done once. The Mass Air Flow sensor done twice. Oh, I almost forgot to mention; I have only had the car for 12 months. There shall be no VW's even allowed in my driveway when I am rid of this POS.

BR,

OH.

Hi Everyone.

I have a VW 2001 1.8 T. I have had a problem with the ASR light coming on and staying on for more than a year. It is horrible. They can't figure out the problem. I can't tell you how many things they've tried to fix this.

My ASR light comes on while driving on DRY pavement and stays on. My car's performance decreases greatly. I have a case with 800-VW and my local VW has been trying to fix this for a year. The MAF (mass air flow) is still failing, but since it has already been replaced TWICE, they won't replace it again. We got an extended warranty on the MAF as you might recall.

I am at a loss.. they've replaced the air filter, cleaned the throttle body, replaced the ASR switch, they've redone all the ground connections, and replaced the spark plugs. NOTHING IS WORKING. MY ASR LIGHT STILL COMES ON 4 DAYS/ WEEK.

If anyone knows anything, please help me! Right now, my VW has their techline involved and even they don't know what to do. I've payed for several UNNEEDED repairs for my car and the ASR light still comes on.

ANY THOUGHTS AT ALL ON THIS SUBJECT?? Thanks so much! -Simcha.

Hello. I recently bought a used 1999 Jetta from a private seller. It was my dream car and 2 months after I had it, the car decided not to shift out of park and the EPC light was on. I looked in my manual and this light has nothing to do with shifting and it should still work because of a power back up. I was very confused, so I took it in to the shop and they could not find anything wrong with it and that cost me 50 dollars. Now my EPC light is on again and I'm just not sure why!

Hey all, I have a VW JETTA 2000 with a manual transmission. I haven't had many problems, the only considerable problem I have is the fact that "IT DOESN'T EVEN START". Anyone want to buy it?? These cars are real good, no need of mechanics before 100 000 miles... buy one...

I bought a 2000 Jetta GLS VR6 2.8L manual in January of this year from my Lexus dealership, and I've had nothing but problems!

My check engine light came on a month after buying the car--had to replace both O2 sensors. (warranty--$100 deduct.)

Then, in March, I was driving the car a few miles from home when it started overheating--had to replace the thermostat AND a leaky water pump.($317)

Check engine light came on again in May, but I haven't brought it in to be looked at... the light will turn on for a month and then turn off for a month, then repeat... car is running fine.

Unfortunately yesterday my EPC light came on as well. I haven't noticed a reduction in power yet, but this is ridiculous! I've had the car for only eight months!

I just purchased a used 2000 Golf Gls 5spd. IT HAS BEEN NOTHING, but TROUBLE... everytime I get into it I am afraid of another problem happening. I've had it 1 month so far it needed a new starter, battery, new spark plug wires.. NOW IT HAS BURNED 4 QTS OF OIL IN LESS THAN A MONTH!!! the glove box is busted the cup holders are busted, so is the rear ash tray.. and the plastic trim in the car is starting to wear off. The passenger window is broken (keeps falling down) grrrr... the suspension feels smooth, but make lots of noise when going over bumps... I thought a german made golf would be better than the mexican/brazilian ones are, but that is B.S.. I am starting to hate this car.. does anyone know if I have any rights. I boutght this car used 1ith 103,000miles on it and half of it is financed I feel like a sucker!

If you watch People's Court or any one of those type of shows you'll find that used cars are sold "as is" and you have no claim unless the seller deliberately mislead you.

Best thing you can do at this stage is find a reliable VW repair shop that will offer you discounts.

Well let me start off by telling all of you that my Jetta 1.8T has not had a single problem up until now. I got a flat tire the other day and my ASR light come on and hasn't come off yet. I have to turn it off by hitting the button on the dash board. I have 112000+ miles on the car and this is the first thing that has gone wrong with my car.

Everyone has to realize that any car can do this. There are plenty of problems with other types of cars, you're just not looking at their website.

I have had my Volkswagon 5 speed GLS since August. It is now January and I've driven the car collectively about 2 months. I've had to fix, the front fender,2 tire rods, power steering, water pump and thermometer, and the car has 91000 miles on it. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! I HATE this car, and can't wait to get rid of it.

Hi.

I am driving a 2002 VW Golf Variant. 1.6 l engine. The EPC and the engine symbol lights recently appeared. The engine suffers from loss of power on and off. It feels like the gas pedal does not influence the engine performance anymore. VW dealers mechanics say that they are not so sure what it is, and I finally went and had the car checked through the diagnostic system. They said that I have to change the gas pedal which includes the "accelerator pedal sensor", or whatever this thing is which is connected to the pedal. Other mechanics said it could be something else, which is related to petrol quality or other thing connected to fuel system which causes the engine signal to turn on together with the EPC lights. One of them said that I might get stucked on the road.

Anybody has any advice?

I have a 2001 Jetta GLS 1.8T, and have had some similar problems as

well. I love my car, but these are problems that shouldn't be happening to new/ fairly new German engineered cars... I have been the first and only owner of the car.

The interior door handle 'skin' is peeling on mine, after they replaced

both the passenger and driver side door 'skins' telling me it was

faulty material and within the two yr warranty.

Interior trim near radio, a/c switches is peeling as well.

Power window motor clips also replaced on both passenger and drivers side

after they 'fell' into the door. (scary thing when you're driving! Thank goodness I was headed home!) Replaced under warranty.

My sunroof inner track plastic thing came off the track. Didn't even bother to fix it.

Wax seeps out of bottom of doors.

Air conditioning has an 'old/musty' smell.

Plastic clip/ hinge for front armrest / console broke off.

Front cup holders are sticking.

Rear window defroster does not work. VW claimed it wasn't sautered correctly after they fixed it under warranty. Still to this day has had problems (I have had the car since 2000!).

Temperature sensor stopped working after the warranty was over. Replaced the part myself for minimal cost.

My ASR light has been coming on randomly, I don't know whats going on.

It turns off as soon as I turn off the car. (Please help if anyone knows what causes this!)

Brakes have been squeaking although inspections have said the brakes are fine.

Also, the idle sensor is no good. When I am stopped at a light, the

car revs every few seconds... I think someone else complained about

the same thing on this website too.
