1991 Volkswagen Jetta GL review from North America
"A great car all around-- prime example of German craftsmanship"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The trunk is lifted via the plastic moulding above license plate... it broke... could be a little stronger.
Cruise control works occasionally-- previous owner has had dash opened... worked on electrical.
Replaced 2 electrical relays a couple months after I bought it.
General comments?
This car is made in Germany- some Jetta models are made in Mexico.
In spite of some relatively minor problems that can be attributed to it's age and the incompetence of its former owner, this is a great car.
It has very good acceleration and excellent fuel economy-- 36-38 miles per gallon driving 80% highway 20% city driving.
Steering is responsive and good handling overall.
The heater will force you out of car. Air condioning also works very well--even with 3 days of 107 degree weather recently.
Good leg room up front, cramped for tall adults in rear, but comfortable seats overall.
The trunk is huge, bigger than many full sized sedans.
Under the hood, everything in plain view (except power steering) and plenty of room to for oil changes, tuneups, etc.
