1994 Volkswagen Passat GL 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Typical solid 90s VW

New wheel bearings and brakes all round was its most expensive cost to me at one point.

Other than that, minor niggles - normal wear and tear, a faulty indicator relay switch, and a leaking sunroof fixed by myself.

Engine had a slight oil leak near the time I got rid of it; it was only the rocker cover though, so no big deal, and that was acceptable at the age and mileage.

General Comments:

A vastly underrated car that during its time was a face lifted Passat that was only made for a couple of years before changing to the more modern 1996 model that was an all new car. This 1994 model however was a good update to the previous model, and in the 7 years I had it put well over 100,000 miles on it trouble free. Reliability was excellent and never broke down once. The faults/wear listed above were all taken care of at services/MOTs, so no trips to the garage. I know people with new cars that even in this current year of 2016 still make trips to the dealer for faults/recalls on their relatively new cars.

Smooth and comfortable to drive, typically 90s VW inside with hard wearing interior that still looked fresh after all those years and mileage. Cosmetically on the outside it looked great - little to no rust spots, and mine was bright red with big alloy wheels. This was a well equipped car with electric windows and all the usual stuff that worked perfectly.

Overall an excellent car that I only sold in back in 2007 due to circumstances at the time. I know the guy I sold it to, and from what I hear, it's still going strong!

Too numerous to mention.

General Comments:

Engine coils went out, had to be replaced, and VW reimbursed less than the cost, way less than the dealer would have charged, because it was repaired by an independent garage. Shabby treatment by the customer service staff.

1994 Volkswagen Passat CL 1.9 TDi from UK and Ireland

Cheap, but bland motoring!

Rear wheel bearing failed, causing brake to dismantle and wheel to become detached!

New rear shock absorbers at 98000 miles.

Front brake disks replaced at 100000 miles.

New battery. Would not start on cold winter morning.

General Comments:

A very good car, and so cheap to run. Diesel engine does silly mpgs. I have managed 44 to 57mpg. The fuel tank is huge, and can do over 800 miles on the motorway at 70mph or so! Impressive for such a big girl!

The wheel falling off was worrying! If you hear it squeaking STOP! Everything else that has gone wrong is to be expected as it has done 100,000 miles.

There is no rust on the bodywork.

The interior feels solid, and the rear leg room is massive!

1994 Volkswagen Passat GLX vr-6 2.8L 6 from North America

VR-6...Station wagon...Great car

Not really much has gone wrong with this car...Had to have brakes re-worked...not the cars fault..Minor body problems...rust.

General Comments:

I bought this car at a church auction..Was sitting in a barn for 3 years without being run...changed out the gas and filters, new battery and she fired right up...For a station wagon..it is quick, smooth and handles well...The biggest problem is rust..seems to pop up everywhere...I have read a lot of people saying these cars are not too good...That has not been my case...Great car...runs perfect...fun to drive..

I bought a 1994 Passat GLX wagon about 1 month ago. Very nice inside, fast, good handling, and fun to drive. I am the second owner of the vehicle and hasn't given me any problems.

Economical mile munching work horse/family car

Near side back spring broke at 11800 miles.

New rear brake pipes fitted for the MOT.

New wheel bearings fitted at 113000 miles.

Electric windows have an intermittent problem. I think it is the switch.

Fuel gage sometimes work's and the temperature warning light comes on sometimes. both are electrical fault's.

General Comments:

The best car I have owned by far.

Diesel engine is economical and totally reliable.

Boot space is huge.

Parts can be bought cheaply by from aftermarket parts companies.

Totally solid body work.
