2004 Volkswagen Polo Confortline from Mexico - Comments

"The prefect car "but"...!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

This is the first time that I have a Volkswagen, Polo's are very nice car and has a nice style. The first problem, was since I get the car out of the dealer, when I switch the reverse and the car is moving slow, pressing the brake, theres a loud noise coming from the rear tire. I sent the car to the dealer, but they told me that is normal, because the car was new just 100, they told me that these noise going to disappear at 1000km more less. Now it has 6900Km and the noise still there.

The second problem was yesterday, when switch first, and the clutch, just don't came up. I called the dealer and they pick up the car, I don't know how long going to take this repair, but it is incredible, that a new car has those kind of problems. I just have tow months with my new Polo, I really love it, but I feel bad about it.

General comments?

I had the idea, that German cars are very good, they have style thats why I get a Polo and not an American car.

In 2004, I was feeling as proud as a peacock with being able to purchase a Brand NEW VW Polo 1.6 Comfortline with all the extras available.

First time in my life I was able to purchase such a vehicle, in cash!

Well, that feeling soon disappeared when the car slowly, but surely proved my expectations of owning a new car to be false. Problem after problem, service centre after service centre, I can safely say that this car is now a pain rather than a pleasure.

Am I being unrealistic? Here, is a list of issues from date of purchase to now which is approx. 16 months to the date.

1. Steering Wheel shakes heavily

2. Dashboard rattles like a baby's party

3. CD Shuttle installed incorrectly

4. The clips on the floor mats broken off

5. The Rear demister does not work

6. Seat belt clip rattles against the seat frame

7. Squeeks and creaks from the car

and many more irritating issues.

This car has been back to the dealers service centre at least 6 times in the last 16 months, and above all, only on one occassion were they able to give me a courtesy vehicle to use.

Every time I contact them, all I get is "we're sorry".

Right now, I am absolutely fed-up and am reconsidering ever owning a VW.

So, am I being unreasonable?

No you are not being unreasonable, I purchased an 05 petrol 55 bhp POLO in black.

The new car was peppered in paintwork chips on arrival.

Preston, Lancs VW dealer when I threatened to reject the vehicle changed the car after a really bad repair attempt.

Finally after two weeks they sourced an identical one with flawless black paintwork, but which drove like a dog.

This car suffered with all the faults you listed plus a very jerky engine on startup and which fluttered and sometimes stalled when idling on cold mornings.

The Preston VW Dealer never fixed these problems, but on so called inspection they actually scratched the car door and scuffed the edge of the near side front tyre without even telling me, they actually did fix the paintwork properly when I pointed it out, but refused to accept responsibility for the tyre. The drive problems still remained at this point and finally they started to suggest it was me who was imagining the creaks, vibration and scraping.

Solved one problem myself, the fluttering idle speed is because they set the revs so low to reach EU emission levels that the car is actually on the brink of stalling

this is none adjustable and is programmed into the EC unit.

VW try to sell you the dream, but that's all it is. I can safely say my next car is not a VW and I got shut of that European piece of junk very quickly.

Recently bought a 2004 Polo Wwist 1.4 petrol from a dealer with 15,000 miles on clock. The brakes sound very noisy, particularly when reversing. The gears seem to clunk, again noisy, and on starting it sounds like a diesel. My husband thinks it's the tappets, and the brakes being noisy is the ABS system. We've had VW's in the past, but not for a while, Nissan have been our preferred choice for the past 8 years. Has anyone else experienced these problems, or are they just the normal running sounds from this model? Can anyone help. I'm not sure I'd have another one.

Hi.

I brought a VW Polo 1.6 about a year ago, its got 40,000 on the clock. I have been very satisfied with VW, i had good service from them so far. I have however noticed a slight rattle coming from the back of the car, when driving over bumpy roads. I've looked all over (the exhaust, spare tire holder etc..) but still haven't found the prob. Will see what the dealers say when I take in it for next service.

Many VW engines sound like diesels, it is a VW trademark, he he =)

Iv had 3 VWs and have been very satisfied with the excellent designs and especially the reliability of the vehicles.

Re: the lady's comments on 10 Aug 2006. You have probably fixed the brake problems by now. Buying a used car throws up several common problems, one being worn brake linings even with 15000 miles on the clock. Replacement of linings doesn't bust the bank, so one can sleep easy. The noisy engine on starting is a common trait of the VW Polo - it is not as quiet as a Japanese car.
