2002 Volvo V70 D5 SE from UK and Ireland - Comments

"A excellent family car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The car broke down at 12000 miles.

A hose that connects the compressor to the turbo charger burst.

Poor starting from cold, will not idle cleanly..

Engine management system has re-programmed by the dealer.

Above problem has now started again.

Air condition stayed on after the ingnition key had been removed? no idea how.

General comments?

A very comfortable car.

Loads of space in the back for passengers.

Feels very safe and secure when traveling especially with the kids.

Dealers did not want to know when I broke down, it took three attempts to find a dealer that was prepared to fix the car.

Very economical,40 mpg is normal.

The air con staying on happens to my car in london during the summer after igintion swithced off! This is because there is Ice build up on the compressor pipes and to clear it the internal vent fan stays on in the car until the ice has melted! It got me concerned a few times until I spoke to Volvo about it.

The air con also stays on in my S80.

This is a design feature to 'dry out' the air con unit.

This is supposed to be a 'fix' from complaints about bad odours coming from climate control system.

It mentions it in the handbook.

Hope this helps.

I have an 2002 2.4 t S60 with climate air con. After a hot day, I have heard the interior blower fan switch itself on - not the engine fan - while I have been sat in my living room, after coming back from a drive with the air con in use, usually about 5 minutes after coming away from the car - I park my car nearby. My 2000 year 2.4 V70, with climate, never did this, it only refused to close the windows just before a big storm, and unlocked the car all by itself! My only concerns with the S60 have been the possibility of a battery going flat. My solution to this is simple - and never failed yet: turn the air con off BEFORE switching the engine off.
