2003 Volvo XC90 T6 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Would not by another one; can't wait to get rid of it

Faults:

Clicking noise, which sounds like it's coming from inside the aircon vents.

CD getting stuck in the player.

Sound coming from car when I put the car in reverse, and when I'm backing out.

Has already had a new transmission put in, but it was before we bought the car.

General Comments:

The inside of the car is very comfortable.

Love the heated seats and the phone.

Bad turning circle.

Bad blind spots on the car.

Good luck with your next purchase! If all problems you have had (on a 7 year old SUV with 120K) is what is listed, you need something much better than usual. I mean do not think about GM or Toyota...

2003 Volvo XC90 AWD 2.4 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Better looking than good

Faults:

Oh dear.. Oh dear, oh dear oh dear!!

The XC90 is a beautiful car.. No denying it!! However.. It is flawed!

We have the 163 bhp version, but that I suspect doesn't matter. The gearbox.. rubbish! Semi automatic.. should be OK.. but it wasn't!.. £2,500 later and it's still jumpy!!.. That said.. It never actually lets you die in the desert! It 'defaults' to safe mode.. '3rd' and will always get you back home..ish.

Foot/handbrake.. Nightmare!! Just a nightmare!! Stupid thing!! MOT failure.. and £500 to fix!!

General Comments:

The Volvo XC90 is a lovely looking car.. it really is. The seats are comfortable.. but not as comfortable as the V70xc's.

You can load the beast with more stuff than a person with lots of stuff needs to load!

It's very, very, very safe!! It is a tank without tracks. If you must crash.. This is the bus to crash in!! You will live... I can't speak for anything you hit.. But.. 'you and yours' will live to tell the tale!

The sat nav system... NO!.. Buy something else!

Off road... Hmmm.. It is no Landrover! Anything Japanese, remotely 4x4, will will trump it!!.. It will do moderate off road stuff.. but, basically, the XC90 is a HUGE estate car. It's an XC70 on stilts and steroids!

It is not quick! The V6 is fast.. and very thirsty.. the diesels are much better on fuel.

I don't like the XC90.. I could.. but it is not the super all singing all dancing Swedish glory box I was hoping for!! Disappointing and expensive to run, sadly.

2003 Volvo XC90 T6 from North America

Summary:

This car is too unreliable for me to recommend

Faults:

At 29000, I had the dealer replace the entire front end, due to faulty ball joints, tie rods, etc.

At 60000, my front end was replaced AGAIN.

At 75,000, my transmission started jerking every once in a while. Then, at 80,000, I got a SERVICE TRANSMISSION URGENT light. I took it to my mechanic and, $5,000 later, got a new transmission.

General Comments:

Comfortable and handles very well.

It is too unreliable.

2003 Volvo XC90 T6 AWD 6 cylinder turbo from North America

Summary:

Buyer beware of the XC90

Faults:

Well, we just became members of the XC90 failed transmission club! The "urgent transmission service" required light came on. We were told by the dealership that we need to replace the transmission and front left axle. Our CPO warranty has expired. We called Volvo North America and expressed our expectation that Volvo pay for the repairs. They said they will contact the dealer and let us know something within 2 days. I'll post the outcome when we hear something. If we don't get a favorable outcome, we will contact the media and try to get this issue on the news. It is really unacceptable that there has not been a recall for this problem.

2003 Volvo XC90 T6 from North America

Summary:

Would not purchase another Volvo

Faults:

Expected to have this car for 200,000+ miles; however, at 110,000 I have major transmission costs. The transfer case (angle gear) went out and in general the transmission is slipping. I always had the dealer service the car and always agreed to all necessary work... how can this happen?

I'm so sick of going in for service and spending so much money. This car is just not worth the expense and hassle.
