2012 Volvo XC90 AWD 3.2 from North America

Summary:

A great car which never gets old in style

Faults:

The pillar cloth cover is torn. I was a few days out of warranty and the dealer refused to fix it :(

General Comments:

This car is great. Very comfortable and reliable, and a great feeling of a city truck. It's not quick, but that's not what you need in a SUV.

The only things that could be improved have been gas mileage, and for sure the hated dealers!

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

In 80000 miles and only the A-pillar cloth issue is mentioned? Certainly you didn't own this car. Let's see what you didn't say. Wheel bearings (very common on the XC90), control arms, spring seats, end links, ball joints, water pump, alternator, and many other just to name the most common wear items. On the V8 you have other fun repairs, and the angle gear is not far away from failing either.

Check the review details - 2012-2015. 80k miles but over just 3 years. If it’s been on long open road trips most of the time, it could be true. Many parts fail with age and environment rather than mileage. My colleague drove a Subaru Legacy company car from Prague to Paris very regularly over 2-3 years and only had a brake light bulb issue, without other problems Subarus usually have.

I agree, it's certainly possible. Unfortunately comments like the one above yours happen a lot on here, people claiming a reviewer did not "own the car" just because they did not detail every single wear and tear item. I believe the confusion comes from what people define as "faults" (serious breakdowns or failures) rather than wear and tear (brakes, tires, etc).

Mind you, this particular Volvo is not known for good reliability as much as other Volvo's of the past, but I still say well looked after modern car can go for many miles without serious issue.
