I did have my mechanic change the transmission fluid, and then add Lucas transmission treatment to it just to keep the transmission running smooth

Of course, I have done (myself) the usual maintenance with OEM parts, like brakes, filters, fluids (coolant, differential, transmission, power steering), front suspension balljoints, drivebelt, etc ... It started to leak 3 years ago, and some Lucas Steering Fluid additive reduced the leak substantially, but at some point I just replaced it with a used genuine one ($170)

This was solved by draining the transfer case oil and filling it back up with a 50/50 mixture of Lucas oil treatment and transmission fluid
