Broke the climate control system after 7 year old son kicked the controls during a temper-tantrum. He also broke right dash vent.
This car is a true luxury car. It is a better car than a BMW, Lexus, or Toyota. Just drive it, and you'll agree!
I'm rather old (62), and I need something that's comfortable to ride in, yet sporty. This Hyundai is exactly what I need.
The SHIFTMATIC shift system is a joy to use! It's like driving a sporty-car, with the luxury of my old Buick!
I love zooming past other slow drivers in their other cars with the Hyundai! It's both sporty yet luxurious... I thought that was an oxymoron too!
The quality stitching on the leather is the best I've ever seen! I've owned some pretty ritzy cars myself in the past (A 1992 BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S Class, etc), and the uphostry in this car is actually BETTER than those!
Did I mention the warranty? It's the best warranty at any price! Your car is covered for 10 years! That means in 2008, I will STILL have plenty of coverage, as long as I don't go over the milege!
I love to show off this car! I'll often drive around for the fun of seeing people's envious stares! Sometimes I'll even get questions from younger people, asking me if it is a Rolls-Royce or an upscale Lexus or Mercedes! This is a Hyundai!??
Of course, the climate control system is next to useless, because my son was throwing a temper-tantrum in the front seat, and kicked the climate control unit. Now I can only adjust the temperature (and have to guess), and it will only blow on the floor.
You have a great car. Loose the son.
Go to the dealership and... get the climate control fixed!!! Duh!!!

Saying this car is definitly not better than a BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes is being a little bold and presumptuous. This car has received great rewiews from sources such as Car and Driver and MotorTrend, it has received kudos on fit and finish, comfort, and overall luxury, and at half the price and with a better warranty than its competitors it's a tighter race than you think, not to mention it's a beautiful car Hyundai or not.
Sounds to me like someone thinks that for the lone reason that they spent more money and because a car has a certain name that it possibly can't be beaten despite equal-better reviews. The XG 300-350L series cars definitely rival and/or surpasse Lexus, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Lincoln. You will not find a better car and you will definitely spend more money on the others. I have owned Caddy and Benz and loved both, but also love my XG and spent sooooo much less for a car with the same level quality. As stated in an earlier comment, every car has some problems and there will always be lemons in every make/model. If your service center is as good as Preston Hyundai in Youngstown, Oh you may have a problem, but it gets fixed correctly the first time. If you have a service dept that is poor, it won't matter if you own a Benz or Lincoln, you'll still be unhappy.
When I first bought the XG300 used I loved everything about it. It was beautiful inside and outside. I have had it for 6 months, it has 61000 miles on it, and all of the sudden it is not a smooth ride. It hesitates to go, the alarm doesn't work, and my leather is falling apart. The car has been in the shop over 6 times in the time I have owned it.
I own a 2001 XG300 with approximately 85,000 miles on it. I have never had a problem with any part of the car except for a burnt out headlight which was replaced on warranty. The fit and finish on the car is outstanding, mechanics on the car seem to be holding up extremely well. I am not overzealous on scheduled maintenance as I find scheduled maintenance is far too expensive for the cost/benefit. Generally I tend to keep my cars anywhere from 10-15 years, regular oil changes, tire replacements, battery replacements are all that are needed to keep most dependable cars running without issues. The Hyundai is no exception. My last car was a Toyota Corolla 1995 which I traded in May 2006. I had 85000 miles on this car as well and no problems in the 11 years I had it. My Hyundai is now 5 years old, no problems whatsoever. Luxury, dependability and a handsome car for the price.
What do you mean by "This car has received great reviews.."? The only reviews I've seen states that this car drives like a barge, have poor performance considering the engine size, the brakes are useless and is 10 years or more behind the luxury brands in ride quality. But I agree that this car is much ride for the money, but it is hardly a luxury car! Remember, you do not get a luxury sedan by gluing on chrome parts and leather interior to a Sonata (which the XG basically is).
I don't know why they call it xg300 or whatever, in australia it is called the Hyundai Grandeur XG!!! much better name!!
I loved my XG when I bought it! Oil changes right on scheduled, treated the vehicle very well. Feb. of this year I took it in for the 75,000 mile routine maintenance since I anticipated driving it for another 75,000. Since then I've had nothing, but trouble (not covered under the warranty). The power steering pump went out, developed a hole in a hydraulic hose, battery cables corroded (the dealership didn't bother to check those during the "check-up".) Replaced the alternator two weeks ago, just had it in the shop again today for the "check engine" light. The parts and pieces of the the EVP system are wearing out. It is now sitting in my driveway-seems I've done something to the alarm system and I can't start it or remove my keys. Have been completely through the manual, but can't seem to resolve the problem. Will be calling the dealership, again, in the morning.
Needless to say I'm extremely disappointed. I'll be trading my XG in on something else (most likely a Toyota-Avalon or Camry) I want to buy a car that I can get at least 150,000 miles out of.
I own a 2000 Hyundai Grandeur XG.
My main problem with the car (being in Australia), is that the suspension is far too soft for our roads over here.
Going over a speedbump at a speed higher than 5Km/hr will cause the car to bottom out.
The soft suspension coupled with the front wheel drive chassis cause an unbelievable amount of understeer.
Calling this car 'sporty' is appropriate only if you consider a sports car based on the speeds it can achieve in a straight line.
Throw in some corners and the grandeur wallows about like the HMAS Hyundai in rough seas.
Other than the handling and suspension problems, I have found the car to be a generally enjoyable sedan that is best suited to long distance driving over a billiard-table smooth surface (Motorways).
