The engine had to be replaced (rebuilt) after 120,000 miles.
The seats faded much over 100,000 miles.
I got the transmission replaced after 130,000 miles.
I replaced the head gasket 1 time after 130,000 miles.
Everything else held up perfectly like it should.
I only changed 1 light bulb on the whole entire car after 10 years if hard usage!
I have been racing a serious amount of people since I had this car, and I only lost only 1 race, which was a 1997 Pontiac Firebird, and at the time my turbo was at advanced age.
I put awe on some people's faces from such great performance.
This car is seriously a package that has astonishment written all over it.
I just got a talon and I smoked my friends 2002 gtp. You just have to learn how to drive better.
I've got a 91 talon awd and have beaten about every car that I have raced except for my friends z28 and my other friends trans am. the funnest one to have beatin yet though was my buddys 03 mazda 6 that has a claimed 260 hp so I would give it up any time to the dsm's if you know how to race them they are almost unbeatable, but even still they aren't invinsible.
Hey I'm Looking at a 1991 TSI AWD with 95,000 miles. They are asking 2,995 for it. Is it a good buy? Everything Run and looks fine on the car. I just wanna know. What is the most popular thing that goes out on the TSI AWD. I Been reading a lot about High maintenance. Is it an expensive car to own? plz email me at hwgregg8@hotmail.com and AOL screen name is hwgregg8 thanks.
Dude, I don't know what you're smokin, but I don't see how a 1988 Cavalier Z24 could beat a turbo Talon. And as far as only being beat once, all I can say is you must be racing a bunch of Geo Metros. There are tons of Mustangs, Camaros, Pontiacs, etc that could blow the doors off a talon in a minute. Talons are fast for 4-cylinder cars, but don't get carried away here.
Hello I have a chance to buy a 1990 awd talon turbo, loaded 5 spd. it has a blown head gasket, I can get the car and used head for 1000$ is it worth it. ps I can fix the motor, just want to no if its worth it.
I agree. Talons are fast, but you have to remember, there is a bit of a turbo lag, and they are just a four cylinder. don't get me wrong I like talons, but try driving some other cars a broaden your horizons.
I own a 1990 Laser RS (Sister to Talon).
With some simple mods this car can beat almost any stock car priced under $40,000 (leaves out vettes, etc)
Some people have trouble with turbo lag.
Simple solution when racing is to make sure your RPM's are over 3000 at all times.
This car is simply the best bang for the buck and one of the easiest to upgrade.
If you have a chance to buy one do it, but remember with a cheap high performance car comes maintenance.
I own a 1991 TSI FWD that is extremely fast. It has a 16 big turbo, 2.5 turbo back exhaust an a k&n. Caviliers are by far my favorite to smoke. Allthough GT mustangs do give up a good fight when its dry, when its wet a geo metro could blow my doors of.
If you have a chance to buy one, replace the timing belt and cams, it will save you in the long run.
Oh yea, I have driven this car from 65,000 to where it is now 104,000 with out a single problem except for replacing front tires.

Hey I have an 88 cavalier z24 5 speed stock besides my magnaflow muffler and I blew the doors off a 91 awd turbo talon 5 speed he stayed beside me untill I threw it into 3rd then I pulled away fast.
Sorry, a Cavalier didn't beat a awd turbo Talon. Maybe you passed him around town or something?
It doesn't count if he is in the turn lane and you passed him. Save your money and stop wasting it on that car.
I am looking into buying a 91 Talon TSi all wheel drive turbo 5 speed, but I need to get a new engine for it. I am not sure as to what engines I can put into it though. I don't necessarily need the "best" engine, but the most important thing is that it runs. This might be a stupid question too, but when I called around trying to find an engine, they asked me what series it was (like a 2000 series) and I have no idea. I doubt the owner of the car knows either. If anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.
Hey I'm about to buy an Talon 91 for 1,000, its AWD Turbo 5speed, its all in good shape, but the guy before it raced it, and don't know if I should, but it or not, I've been advised not to by a couple people, what should I do.
My e-mail is dr_xzp@hotmail.com.

These cars are known to be tuned up, check this guy out, fastest AWD DSM in the world www.Shepracing.com . I have a project 1990 eagle talon tsi that's going to be a bad muthersucker and when I say its fast... trust me, its fast beats evos with my last setup with a smaller big16g evoIII turbo with 15psi, with this setup I did 343 awhp at 21psi on 110 octane which is pretty damn impressive with that small turbo. this new setup is going to be pretty darn good lookings to be in the 10's to high 9's ball park.
