"What you pay is what you get"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

My engine needs overhaul at 30000 Kilometers

The absorber needs replacement when just only driven for three months.

The signal lights above the bumper always falls out. I got replace at no cost.

General comments?

The engine is not powerful enough for 1500cc car.

The car handling is reasonable.

The braking system is really poor. The car always slip when braking very hard. ABS strongly needed.

The car is also built by cheap metals. When crashed at high speed, the car is completely out of shape.

However the car is comfortable.

I think Proton is doing very well in their job. Well, what I wish to say is... the Magma engine is designed for fuel economical drive, but not for 'drag racing' so high performance (horsepower) is not your first option. Every car will turn into a piece junk under high speed collision. Every car will slip when braking hard unless you have a better skill to control or pay some more for the ABS. It depends how you drive the car. If you drive the car like ‘rally style’, I’m sure a brand new car will turn into a grandfather car (damaged suspension, vibrating dashboard etc). What’s the major problem from Proton is the lack of experience in manufacturing car (less than 20 years). I’m sure there are still lots of room for improvement can be done. If you have lots of complain about the Proton car…. why choose Proton?

If we have a choice, we wouldn't buy proton!! We purchased proton because of the high tax that imposed on the Japanese's car and continental car. We were forced indirectly!!

I think Proton's main problem is being too protected by the gov (national car). Till the extent that they don't feel threatened by other brands. If you compare with Produa, which also have less than preferred quality and service at least it has been innovating.

Proton Wira has been around for like nearly a decade. And Proton is still producing it like clockwork. And unlike other manufacturers which normally improve on quality & performance, Proton's seem to degrade.

I have a Proton Wira 1.5 GLi (A). Its battery die on me the 1st week I took the car. By the 3rd week the transmission had malfunctions. 4 years down the road, and after countless of battery changes, at least with proper & consistent maintenance the the car as a whole is still in good condition. I don't drive like its " Rally time " or "Drag time " everyday.

Isn't Proton using parts from Mitsubishi? We all know how dodgy Mitsi cars are. Age those dodgy parts by 10 years, then you'll get Proton.

I just bought my Wira 1.5 Manual this year. My car currently is about 11 months old only. About 4 to 5 months after i purchased the car, it started making problems. First was the wheel bearing ( according to my mechanic, the wheel bearing are not suppose to spoiled so fast, not in 4 months time ) After few months later my car engine started to make problems. When i accelerate my car, it seems to jerk quite obvious. Its been 2-3 months already.( and i don't drive like a mad person ) I've send back to proton and the mechanic there seems to simply do their jobs. ( They comment bout this and that, but end up nothing changed )So far quite an amount of problems that I've complaint but out of 10 problems only 1 or 2 problems solved. Proton's company not only need to increased on their car production quality but also on their worker's attitude in serving customers. I've been in a situation where I've sit in-front of the counter for almost half an hour but nobody approach me. ( seems like the counter is empty almost all the time )

I didn't know that the car that I've been driving for almost 3 years has got such bad reviews!

Personally, I thank God that I have not had problems with this baby- not much, that is- apart from the vibrations on the dashboard (and YES!I'm a proud rally-style driver!) The car has served me well so far. And anyway, from where I come from (Singapore), where car prices are sinfully exorbitant, I would think that proton was a good deal (It was about S$64,000 firsthand). Petrol consumption also didn't kill me. I like the streamline shape ofthe body as well as the affordable parts.

In fact, you know what? I'm going to miss this car since I've already bought a new Honda CRV. It was hard for me to part with it. But ah well. Life needs to move on.

I bought a Wira Aeroback 1 year and 3 months ago. On the second month the signal light just poke out and I have it fixed. On the third month, the internal part (cushion at the fender) just fall off. I have it fixed three times, but what the technician did was just sticking some double tape to hold it. During hot weather it just fall off again. The technician told me that nothing can be done because it's factory defect. The problem has not been solved untill today. Recently, I got a shock when I found that my boot was flooded with a big pool of water. I called up the service centre and I was told to make booking 2 weeks later and have to leave the car there for 3-4 days. I asked them why can't I get an earlier date and they told me that it is fully book. But what about my car during rainy days? Despite the defects, their customer service is really lousy.

I don't think that the wira is that bad. My wira is worst it is only 1300cc.The black bumper type. After 2 years the tail pipe just broke off. I went to kereta mewah workshop and they said this thing never happened before. My radiator also leak and my brake oil bottle also leak after a few month. The new wira 1500cc that is called cheap and good is the worst among 1500cc type. The tail pipe is rusted in the stockyard before sale. No power window, alarm system etc. Now I have a new waja 1.6. I feel that waja is a little small, but nice.

I just bought a second hand 1.5 Proton Wira sedan year 2000, and the condition is good. No vibration and the condition of the car is superb. I don't understand why some of the user are complaining about the car. Maybe b'coz of poor maintenance and of course there is a problem..

If the car skids when you hit the brakes hard, then that's actually the tyres rather than the brakes.

In terms of the crash performance, modern cars are designed to crumple up in a serious crash as this absorbs the impact. It might not look too pretty afterwards, but it will have saved your life.

Hi guys.

Actually it is not a comment, I have already a Mitsubishi Lancer 1300c.c model 1998, and I am about to have a Proton Wira second hand, and after all what I read, I need a good opinion to give me the advice should I sell the Lancer and buy Proton, or not?

By the way, I am based in Cairo Egypt, our weather is hot, a lot of dust, not all streets are good, but it will be cheaper in the price when I am about to buy. I need your comments mouraddesk@yahoo.com

Salam my Cairo friend.

Oh you don't have to buy one - you can trade with me - I have a crappy built for Malaysian consumption Wira that I'll be happy to exchange with your Mitsi Lancer 1300c.c model 1998.

Anyways it'll be like me getting a new car because you take a Mitsi and age it 10 years - that's what the new Protons assembled for local Malaysian consumption is like in quality.

Heck, in fact lets see, 1998 + 10 years = 2008 hei I'm actually getting a future not yet assembled Proton Lancer for the Malaysian market!

If you really want to buy a Proton you got to get the assembled for United Kingdom ones, yeah they built the best ones for the Brits!

Not only that, but we Malaysian consumers are subsidizing probably 90% of the cost to make that better quality model because instead of paying RM40K for my piece of a junk car I should have been made to pay only RM4K because thats probably also how much it cost to make. Aaaargh!!

I am fully agreed with the above comments. In fact, a car in Malaysia is almost the 2nd biggest investment in life for most people. Proton did not realize the agony of owning a Proton car, keeps repairing, non stop repairing all kinds of trivial problems, this adds up a forbidden amount of dollars.

Think twice before you invest in a Proton car.

I am still recalling way back 30 years ago when Toyota released their Corolla DX version, I am sure the quality at that moment is far far better than this CRAPPY JUNK Proton car. After 10 years of use, Proton will become the wreckage and will be sold off like a piece of junk.

11/9/06.

I ve been driving Proton Wira 1.3M for 32 months and found that except for the braking system and the vibration/noise from the dashboard and the steering wheel I dislike most, its only the fuel consumption that only pleased me! However not everyone can afford good cars and I can only said that for those who complaint that spare parts tear off after newly bought, I think that with purchase of any car, really depend on Luck! as this is economy car and try not to compare with other luxury brand!

Alien.
