The power steering pump failed.
Seats starting to wear badly.
Misc. trim pieces have fallen off inside and the interior is of poor quality for the "top-of-the-line" model.
The body side molding has started coming off.
The "Skid Plate Package" that was listed with the Z71 package I paid for did not come on the truck. Chevy's response was that "we reserve the right to change or improve the product without notice". Or refund either, I assume.
One alloy rim was bent from the factory.
The drivers running board self destructed.
The doors leak air and have been adjusted several times.
The battery failed and was replaced.
The blower fan failed.
The engine computer needed to be reprogrammed.
The extra cost yellow paint is very thin as to see the primer in some spots.
The truck is a very good design let down by shoddy materials and poor workmanship. I hope GM will learn to build more reliable vehicles some day. When the truck is running right, its performance, ride and fuel economy are excellent.
Mileage is 23 city, 28 highway.
The engine has plenty of power.
The ride and handling is excellent.
I have the same vehicle, but the four door it is absolutely the worst truck Ihave ever owned I put a lot of miles on a vehicle I am at 35,000 pushin gms warranty limit. I am having the exact same problems you are having and in fact I printed this and I am taking it to the dealer who sold me this inferior truck he thinks its just this vehicle I have spoke to other owners and they are saying the same thing.
I smell a class action lawsuit...
If you had so many problems, why the smiley face?
I bought the Colorado z71 and have put almost 50,000 miles on it (long distance travel) with no problems at all.
My wife and I both have the 2005 ext. cab Z71 4x4's and we love em. Great on gas, comfortable, and priced right.
I purchased a Z71 extended cab in April of 2004. Before this I had an S-10 extended cab. The Colorado has more interior room than the S-10 and a bigger bed, but it shifts a lot when going up hills. If going up a long hill, it does not maintain the speed and so I need to give it more gas and that's when it seems to shift three or four times before it speeds up. I really like the size of the vehicle, but not the 5 cylinder engine. Now, if they put a 6 cylinder into a Colorado body, that would be perfect!!
I often wonder why GM does not offer the same I6 that is standard in the Trailblazer SUV? People who buy pickup trucks often want a vehicle that will offer excellent towing capability, which would be significantly improved with the I6 offering in the Colorado/Canyon truck. Maybe it is planned in the near future?
Perhaps the 4.2 I6 is too heavy for the vehicle? I don't know, but that engine should have been the logical choice coupled with a 6-speed stick :)
Or even better how about a 4 cylinder diesel!!
The Vortec 4200 I-6 is to long for the Isuzu GMT-355 platform. The second year of the H3 is going to have a diesel and v-8, so we can all hope!
The Trailblazer is a built on the GMT-360 Platform.
Chevrolet Colarado is the worst vehicle I have ever owned everything is falling apart the screws are falling out of the doors, the headlights go out every 3 thousand miles and the fog lights are always cloudy up just shoddy craftsmanship.
My Colorado was the worst new car I have ever purchased. When I looked on this website, I was SHOCKED to see the number of positive reviews of this vehicle... not so much because of my own experiences, but for the following:
I have lost count of the number of times I have been out, at a gas station, car wash, etc, and have spotted someone else with a Colorado. The owners see me with my Colorado, approach ME, and say with a depressed tone, "How do you like YOUR Colorado?" They then tell me their own tale of despair, how it is the worst vehicle they have ever owned, will never buy another one, etc.
I don't know man, maybe it's just a certain year/month that have issues? Friends of mine have them and love them and have had hardly any problems.
I'm actually surprised because one friend just totally abuses it off-road to boot.
Hey; I am a mechanic and I worked for a GM dealership. I own an '06 Colarado Z71 and they are great. I've got 37,000 and those are some hard kms and have not had one thing go wrong. I think that the interior is solid, not soft, so my advice to the complainers is to take care of the truck, and it will take care of you!
I just bought a 2004 Chevy Colorado 4x4 4 cyl 5 speed regular cab with 53000 miles on it.
I choose the truck because of the gas mileage. It is a little underpowered with the 4x4 and the 4 cyl, but I assumed such when I bought it. All I need it is for light hauling and transporting smaller furniture.
My question, being I am a first time truck owner, is how does this vehicle do in the snow? I am a snowboard instructor and regularly travel snowy/icy/mountain roads.
I heard the Toyota Tacoma was not very good in the snow, even with the 4x4... I am hoping that is not the case with this vehicle.
Let me know.
