2005 Nissan Primera SVE from UK and Ireland - Comments

"A lot of car for your money"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing has gone wrong with the car.

General comments?

In dark colours this model looks very nice. Mine is a Metallic Dark Blue. Dark Grey also looks very nice.

Performs OK for a small 1.6L engine.

Full colour display used for reversing camera, sat nav and drive computer is a very nice feature.

Instruments are in the centre of the dash. This takes some getting used to. It is just as visible from the passenger's seat making it difficult to lie about your current speed to wives and girlfriends.

Lots of boot space in the sedan.

Suspension has been improved on previous models. I have no problem with it.

Very safe. Has 6 air bags for instance among other safety features!

Any Aussies living in the UK or Ireland will appreciate the sheer size and comfort of this vehicle. Such vehicles are rare here.

The 2005 models sold in Ireland use metric only on the speedo. Unfortunately still uses imperial on the sat nav. It may be configurable, but I haven't figured it out yet.

A big step down from my commodore S in terms of performance, but what attracted me to this vehicle is the sheer size and gadgets.

I live in Ireland, and I'm about to buy one of these. I was interested to note that the sat-nav is in imperial while the speedo is metric. Recently, our speed limits have gone metric, as are MOST of the roadsigns. Has anyone noticed that while Nissan produce a right-hand drive version of the car, they have left the handbrake on the LEFT?

You will be supplied with a programming disc for the display which you insert into the DVD drive. On this you will have the choice of Languages, and even in English language you can choose between miles and km. It's in the manual and pretty easy to work out.

Hope this helps.

Are you sure it is only a 1.6 engine.. I think you will find it is a 1.8 it the smallest size engine they put in them.

1.6 is availible in Ireland, but not England. It's a tax incentive in some countries.

Does anyone else feel the Primera pulls to the left way to much, especially noticable on long journeys on good straight roads, you feel you're constantly adjusting the steering to the right!!!?? Is it just me?

To convert the Primera's systems to imperial for mpgs and mile data for your "info" areas on the screen, go to settings using the "settings" button, hit "enter" at the language setting and go to "English - mile". That will give imperial economy and distance data, but I'm afraid the speedo and trips remain kilometerised. Hope this helps!!

Can anybody suggest or give some advice. I'm looking to buy this nissan primera t or sve 2003 model onwards. But a mechanic friend told me that the engine they use now for the 2003-present nissan primera models is a RENAULT ENGINE. Don't know if that is true. Can somebody confirm this pls. I've had a nissan primera for 4 years now the older model, but I didn't have any problems major so far. cheers.

As far as I am aware, the diesel engines are from Renault, but the petrols (identified by QG.. I think) are still supplied by Japanese manufacturers.

However, I am open to correction on this...

Nope, the DCi diesel engine is Nissan's own, and in my experience so far a very good one. Confusion arises because Renault has a stake in Nissan and they also have a diesel with the designation 2.2 DCi. The Nissan 2.2 DCi, unlike the Renault, has a chain cam drive and a Japanese engine management system.
