When I first got the car, I had to replace the rear end. I have replaced the alternator several times. I had to put a new bushing in the transmission, 2 coil packs, ignition switch, and powering steering hose when the car had more than 100,000 miles on it. This has been absolutely the best car I have ever owned. My car has 264,000 miles on it now and it blowed a head gasket and I drove it 6 miles and it overheated. Because of the mileage, every mechanic is recommending me to have another motor put in it. So if anyone has a motor they would like to sell me in good condition, please let me know.
Great car if taken care of. I put 102 miles on my car every day and it has lots of power. Even before it tore up at 264,000 miles, it still had lots of get up and go power. Matter of fact, I was driving 90 mph when I blew the head gasket. Makes me wished I hadn't been driving so fast now. It still may have been running if I hadn't been hot rodding it.
Check out www.firebirdv6.com This is an online comunity of fourth gen V6 camaro/firebird owners and they typically have engines/transmissions for sale on the forums as well as a great wealth of knowlege on V6 camaro/firebirds. In my opinion if your going to pay thousands for an engine swap you mind as well toss in an LT1 V8 the gas millage is suprisingly good for a 5.7 liter engine (only a 2-4 mpg loss) and there is little to no differance in transmission and body between the V6 and the V8 comaro.
