I think I have not been lucky with my Fusion 2007 V-6. It's barely makes 17 mpg on the city, and I have mechanical issues as well. I have had to take it to the dealer for third time for repairing the same problem. Nevertheless it rides very smooth and is very comfortable.

To the commenter 13:59, I'm not the earlier poster, but I thought I'd tell you that I've read an automotive journalist who agrees with your sentiment on GM transmissions. If I recall correctly, he said that there are few manufacturers who can tune a transmission for both power and smooth response like GM can - especially at similar price points. So if the Fusion shifts a bit rougher, it's not that surprising.

To comment 13:09. I STRONGLY suspect that your Ford service department is giving you the run around on your Fusion. This is all too characteristic of Ford service people. Most know very little about the cars and simply don't fix the problems. As a mechanic I can assure you that the Fusion is currently one of the most reliable, trouble-free cars made by any manufacturer anywhere (and Consumer Reports agrees). It is light years ahead of the problem-plagued Camry V-6, and on a par with the transmission-eating Accord.

You mileage should be better, so I suspect an undetected problem (NOT unusual with Ford's unconcerned, uneducated technicians). My V-6 truck got 20mpg city, and so does my V-6 Mustang. The Fusion should get even better. You might try taking your car to a Lincoln dealership (as part of Ford they have to also honor your warranty) or shop around to see if you can find a COMPETENT Ford service department (not easy, but not impossible). Don't write off the world's best mid-sized sedan because of bad service.

If you have to, go to Ford's Corporate Customer Service office. I've done that before and it worked.

Although our Fords have been incredibly reliable and trouble-free, we now own 2 GM products and 1 Ford (down from 3 Fords a few years back) because of the great service and high level of competence of our local GM dealership service people. Good service is a BIG selling point.
