I have a 1970 Oldsmobile 98 LS, that has been in my family since new. It has 101,000 original miles. That rocket 455 is unreal. In 1991, I was clocked at 142 mph and did not have the pedal to the metal. Just got too nervous at that speed, especially since it was running on Bias-ply tires. This car has a trailer option with a low ratio rear-end, transmission cooler and heavy duty suspension. It pulled a 26' Airstream Land-yacht for 96,000 of those miles. This car was custom built for my Dad to pull his trailer, and thus has some unusual features. It was loaded with all options except power windows and power door locks (?), I still don't know why it was ordered that way. The other curious thing, is that I think it visited a Chev or Pontiac factory prior to delivery to my Dad as it has two (yes two) factory installed four barrel carburators, and gets 6 miles to the gallon. The car is gold with a white vinyl roof, and when not on the road is always garaged.

I bought a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible on October 29, 1969- It was my main car for six years- It now has 93000 miles on an engine that has never been touched except for valve cover gaskets. The body was restored 15 years ago- They replaced the fenders and repainted it the original light green color. It runs like new- It has been 100% garaged and driven about 500 miles a year since the 1980's- I love it, but it takes up a lot of garage space- Make me an offer I can't refuse--712-947-4000.

Hey whats up car lover's. I must say I love my 1970 98 olds. it is a reliable car and fun to drive. I live in miami, fl and when the yong poeple see my baby they want to buy her and the old just think back when. I love the old schooler's though the would tell me stories after stories. But now my 98 has a problem. its hard to find parts. It seem the 1970 & 69 olds was the start of front brake rotors, and GM was starting somthing new. now for me this my prolem because no one makes these part no one in this nation except the salvage yard may have these parts. Kanter of New Jearsy told me that my 98 old was a limited version because gm was trying sumthing new. Now my car is parked and I'm looking to find some one who can convert the 1970 into a drum just give a modified up grade. lades and gent this is a hard job. Why GM why. I love my car. is there any one out there that can help me.

I am looking at a 1972 Olds 98 with about 70K original miles. Spotless/flawless white leather interior. Garaged it's whole life!! Vinyl top is in great shape as well. It has the 455 Rocket and runs very good. I think I can get it for $1000. Am I robbing this guy blind? What is a car like this worth? No visible rust!

I have a 69 OLDS 98 4 door Hardtop 455 4 brl. This is the worst accelerating vehicle I have driven, with only 51,000 miles on it runs very smooth. Does anyone have ideas or experienced this problem with a 455?

Thanks

I have a 1970 Oldsmobile 98 LS. This was the best car my family ever owned and it was great for carrying 4 adults (full size kids) in the back seat.

4 door hardtop looked great and easy to get in or out.

I think everything except cruise, even the lighted vanity in the back of the front seat.

My dad bought it new, I went on the test drive while still in high school.

Lots of miles, maybe 200K to 300K.

Interior real good, last time I looked.

Vinyl top had to be replaced twice.

Kids next door broke rear driver-side window, and I have it currently covered it with a tarp.

Engine condition poor, I am pretty sure my daughter got it hot. But we had these same enginges on irrigation pumps in the 60's and 70's and thy would run the equivalent of 500K to 750K miles.

Trans probably OK, but I would put in new seals at a minimum.

Not much rust because was located in Texas Panhandle (dry) for most of its life.

My daughter was driving it at college when we got her another car and it has been parked since. It has been bumped on front and rear, so this car is probably best for parts. People in the ice and snow seemed to loose control and head for her. But it was big and heavy enough to protect her, and that is the reason I gave all my kids the biggest cars I could get for that part of their lives.

I would like to sell this to someone in need of components to keep theirs going.

If you are interested, email me and I will get you some pics.

I have a 71 delta 88 convertable 455 rocket that I bought a couple weeks ago. I am no expert and have a couple questions..

1. it seems to be getting about 7-9 mpg.. is this normal?

2. I reads 33k on the odom.. how do I determine the actual miles?

3. I can't find parts in los angeles (convetable top motor.. air cond..etc.) Ideas?

4. the engine shakes like if it is not connected at a mount.. how do I correct? and if I have to pull the block out.. what else should I take the opportunity to repair?

5. 455...why doesn't peel out and have massive torque off the line?

6. what would the top 5 things one might do to improve performance?

Thanks

I have owned my 1970 ninety-eight convertible for thirty years. I have had other cars datsun...BMW...Cougars...Porches...some trucks, but have always kept the 98. I snuck nine kids into a drive-in theater, 6 in the trunk, 2 in the boot and one behind that big front seat. That car has been all over the US, Canada and was on the 101 hwy. I've pulled a 31' travel trailer, a VW bus and a few tree stumps.

I would get 10 to 15 mpg and I could burn rubber with it.

A 455, heavy duty turbo 400, 12 bolt posi-track rear end, tilt telescopic steering the one you squeeze to make the horn honk.

I'm renting out my house, so losing my garage. If anyone would like a restoration project or parts car from Tucson, Arizona contact dathieu60@yahoo.com prior to March 2008.

Hello, George here, I just brought a 1970 Olds Ninety Eight LS Sedan yesterday for $400 dollars. It belonged to 85 year old lady and had sat in her garage for 8 years. The car started right up with 107,000 miles. No rust, new tires.

This olds is something. I have a big 1990 Cadillac Brougham, and a 1984 Olds Ninety Eight Brougham, but this 1970 Olds Ninety Eight has got them beat. Yes the 1970 Olds Ninety Eight LS Sedan is great great car. A real cruiser.

I have an Old 98 convertible 1970 model. I am new to car knowledge. Would you say this is an easy or difficult vehicle to do things on yourself. I had the interior redone and now the boot won't fit on the original snaps. Any suggestions.
