Thought I'd post a (positive) follow up to my earlier question re whether anybody had had any success with the 4/5 year warranty mentioned by others...

I went back to my Peugeot dealers re my possible flywheel problem. They said there was no extended warranty now but that I should contact Peugeot Customer Services and ask them what they could do.

I did that, and CS agreed to pay for the labour and parts to replace the flywheel (but not the clutch as that is classed as a wear and tear item) provided that the flywheel turned out to be faulty after the dealer disassembled the gearbox. (If not I would have had to pay the whole lot of whatever it cost to diagnose and fix it.)

So I now have a new flywheel and clutch (which had to be replaced anyway as it the old clutches don't fit the new flywheels) for the price of a Clutch Kit - £ 160 all in!

Fair play to Peugeot - many thanks!

Hi.I own a peugeot 407 2.0 hdi sallon. I read your comments with interest, as I have some problems with my car to. Not sure what it is, but I read in one of the posts, that some of your cars were making some kind of noise. Could you describe it?

I get on my one, some vibrations in the stearingwheel when turning it, my local machanic told me its nothing to worry about, but I tend to disagree with him\.Drove other cars, but none of them had that, it was a smooth ride.

I have 91k miles on the clock, and even though the car is less than 3 years old (oct 2005) is out of warranty.

Do you think i'll have any joy if I contact peugeot to help me out with this?Their rate are of the roof, only for a diagnostic it'll set me back £100 (their hourly rate).

Thank you.

Having read these comments and having suffered the same problem on a 51 plate 110 with 70.000 miles on it... I must tell you folks that today I have placed an order for the required parts to fix the problem... New Dual mass Flywheel = £310.00 inc vat Full Clutch replacement kit = £115.00 inc vat. £ 425.00! So how come the total cost of replacement of parts and labour exceeds £1000.00 in most of your posts? "My local (ex dealer) mechanic has quoted me around £100.00 to fit them". If the job is done for a total of £525.00 I will give the guy a £50 tip with pleasure! Have Peugeot got the price wrong? or has my mechanic? I will let you know in a day or two... Oh BTW, I'm a driving instructor and have used over 15 Peugeot's in 20 yrs... 205's, 306's and now this 307 and I can say here and now that "Not One of Em" as been any trouble whatsoever despite very high abuse miles until I bought this pile of rubbish.. Believe it or not I have sold 306 Diesels in the past with well over 200.000 miles on the clock that still drove like new cars... "Brilliant"
