I have the exact same problem with my 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited. Did you ever get a response to your post?

If the rep says it is not a common issue... bologna! I have the same thing happening, and I think it is the aluminum/alloy hinges. I am going to change mine to stainless if I can.

I also have a 2002 Jeep Liberty with the same rust problem. There isn't a leak or stain on the head liner. There isn't any other rust on the Jeep at all, but the rust had come from inside the roof and blistered the paint, then formed holes. I'm looking to see if Chrysler / Jeep will repair it.
