I am guessing you have a vacuum leak. Check the intake hose and all the vacuum hoses attached to the intake manifold. It could also be the intake manifold gasket.

The Capri 1.6 is a non-interference engine. Losing a timing belt will not "blow a motor". I have had the experience at 70mph and had the car back on the road in an hour.

The car heated to redline for 2 miles with no damage to anything. 2,000 miles later it is just screaming down the highway. These motors are bullet-proof.
