Classic problem. Interval on these belts is 60K miles, but OEM belts are notorious for breaking before that. You should inspect and in most cases replace at 30K miles to be sure. Otherwise these engines are pretty long lived.

Hi, because of the reviews about the timing belt I put a new one on when I bought the car. It is a Pontiac Wave 2005, am up to 255,000 km so far no problems. Tuns great, uses no oil, it is a 5 speed, totally happy with it
