True, in the UK it's the same, I've known lots of people with Fiat's, I have no idea why they are popular cars - everyone I know that had one said they fell to bits at a relatively low mileage and age. Their general reliability and build quality has always scored average (at best) or below average in customer surveys on new and used cars (search for sources, you will find this everywhere).

Shame really as they make quite nice to drive and smart looking cars, had a Fiat Coupe turbo in the 1990's, loved the look and drive of the thing, shame about everything else. Also had a few Fiat Punto's in the family, nice little cars, but again, just couldn't seem to stand up to everyday use as much as any other car.

We'll see? I think the build quality is good, although cheap in certain areas. I agree it wasn't built for the ages, though. I think the owner(s) is/are the main ingredient in the recipe of longevity. Mine is 11 years old now, gets used daily, & so far, so good.
