The Gremlin and most of the other AMCs from that period were not very well built, even by 1970s standards. They just... weren't. Quality of construction took a nosedive right around the same time they stopped using the Rambler name and became AMCs.

If someone paid $34K for a Gremlin... well, there really IS one born every minute.
