Dunno mate, I had the same car with the same problem about 10 years ago, and a local garage where I live just outside Manchester done the job for £350 all in all (parts and labor). So over £800 sounds a bit excessive to me.
Daewoo were as common as any car at the time here in the UK and parts were certainly not rare or expensive.

£800 for a headgasket is insane, especially for a Daewoo!

Obviously you have never had to get a head gasket replaced. The labor costs dwarf the cost of the parts on this type of repair.
