1995 Toyota RAV4 Rav4 L review from Australia and New Zealand
"A great all purpose car if you do need to do some short 4WD sometimes"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing has gone wrong yet, though I have heard that if you do some four wheel driving, the suspension, 4 drive-shafts and most steering joints will need replacing at 180,000 km.
General comments?
Here are the things you future Rav4 owners need to know. There are basically 2 different motors. The 3S-FE and the 3S-GE. The latter is slightly more powerful and chews up the gas. The 3S-FE is more economical. I get 30 m.p.g. around town or 8.6 L/100k or 10.6 km/L. I get 3 or 4 k more on a long trip.
They can be more powerful with a few modifications. I have simply installed a new air filter and clipped some turbo magnets (buy online) onto the fuel line intake and air intake. My car has gone from 0 to 100k's in 11 seconds down to 8 seconds! As fast as a 95 Subaru.
4WD capability should be good, though it is not intended for long term heavy use or serious 4WD. Things such as the exhaust are not tucked away underneath as my Isuzu Bighorn was and it doesn't have a Low Ratio. But mine does have the central diff lock and in some situations it will go further than my Bighorn which was a capable 4WD vehicle. I would recommend the 5spd manual if you need to go up anything steep.
