2003 Peugeot 307 SW review from Trinidad and Tobago

"Worst vehicle I have ever owned"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Honestly, there is too much to list that is wrong with this vehicle and the service department.

My air conditioning unit has never worked properly in 4 years! And, the head service manager doesn't really care. His works fine!!!

I have spent over $45,000.00 Trinidad and Tobago dollars (that's $7,200.00 U.S. dollars) in service and repairs since owning this vehicle. This I believe is a lemon of lemons.

Everything from the carpet to the engine have performed poorly. And, how did the example commentary already know - yes, seats have worn badly.

Fuel pump just shut down,

Instrument gauge/display went bad.

CD deck had to be replaced.

Strange road noise (clunking sounds), has never been resolved, but they have always found something to replace and bill me for.

Windshield fluid pump has been replaced twice.

Automatic gear faults (all the time).

Front-left power window button on drivers side has a mind of it's own. (it stops when it wants to.)

Did I mention engine surges? Yes, that's fixed by bringing in your vehicle and waiting half the day to have the injector unit cleaned over and over again! Never mind that I'm using only premium fuel and injector cleaners in practically every tank of fuel.

To be fair I should state that my vehicle looks great standing still.

But, back to the business at hand. I have previously owned Cadillac, Ford, Chevrolet and Volkswagen. All of which were used when I purchased them, and I have never experienced the level of dis-satisfaction, dis-comfort and malfunction in those used vehicles, as I have with this Peugeot 307sw!!!

This vehicle honestly has some of the worst craftsmanship and materials I have ever seen in a vehicle. (By the way, I don't have to own every other make of vehicle to state that. I do ride in other vehicles.)

When the power window controls on the door get wet, (just opening the door while it's raining for example) the buttons become whitish, soft and mushy. (And, now they look terrible.)

I once took the vehicle in to discover and bring to an end that clunking noise in the front of the vehicle. What logical thing happened? Peugeot service replaced the rear brakes and sent me down the road! Did it work? Hint: I wouldn't be writing this if it did.

I know a service department wants to move parts, but Peugeot service department is really going overboard. I have replaced every part of the air conditioning system (which still does not work properly) and was told recently to replace the blower motor which was just renewed (as they say) about a year ago! Excuse me, but you don't replace $500.00 U.S. dollar blower motors every one or two years. That is not normal maintenance in any consumer vehicle. But, the service department has no problem telling you to renew or replace (BUY ANOTHER ONE) again!!!

I have to have the entire floor carpet replaced. The carpet is tucked under the molding less than a quarter (1/4) of an inch. Needless to say it has come out and ripped in several places. (I told you it looks nice standing still, but don't look inside for too long.)

Now I equate such a move on Peugeot's part as purely economical ---- for them!!! Use less material per vehicle=carpet more vehicles = higher profit. Uh, this is true in the short run. But, I will never purchase another Peugeot.

And, I figure the least I can do for Peugeot is tell every single person I know just how terrible owning a Peugeot has been. I will write more just because Peugeot doesn't care. I'm not bitter. I just don't believe Peugeot has the consumers interest in mind or at heart. For as much as these vehicles cost, those who purchase these Peugeot vehicles should be able to expect quality, dependability, satisfactory performance and reasonable service.

I cannot enjoy a vehicle that is sub-standard in so many ways. It's not too much to 'get what you pay for'. But, it seems the folks at Peugeot could care less. Small wonder Peugeot only gives a one year warranty in Trinidad and Tobago.

Now...

Will they call? I doubt it.

Will they contact me? They probably will not.

Will they try to make any of this right?

All I can say is that I will try to help the sales of Peugeot vehicles in Trinidad and Tobago as much as they have tried to help me to be a satisfied customer. That's a promise.

...to be continued.

General comments?

Great styling.

Inferior materials.

Poor craftsmanship.

Okay ride.

Sluggish/hesitant acceleration.

Lacks power at times.

It could have been a great vehicle and experience. My suggestion: Don't repair them, renew them with another make of vehicle. Toyota here I come.
