1987 Nissan Cherry GL review from UK and Ireland
"Cheap and cheerful"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The fuel pump had to be replaced at a cost of about £10.
It set itself alight and burnt out, after heavy modifications, causing minor damage to a nearby car.
General comments?
The Nissan Cherry is to budget motoring as the Transit van is to burglars. To say it is a beast of an automobile is a criminal understatement.
My vehicle was used from rallying round fields to trekking up the M1, and never missed a beat.
When I got my hands on the car the suspension was already failing, but still went over speed bumps at a high rate of knots, however due to the engines having no rev limiter, being able to push for 70 mph in second gear more than made up for this minor problem.
Obviously the body work was the first thing to go, but as any owner will agree, this merely adds to the character, and is hardly what could be considered important
Had the car not made an untimely demise due to no fault of its own, I have no doubt it would still be gracing Kettering with its presence.
