1991 Peugeot 405 Mi16 review from North America
"A legend in its own time"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Broke engine mounts twice.
Broke two pulleys.
Many cooling problems.
Besides that, nothing.
General comments?
This is an amazing car. Once passed 4000 RPM the car is a beast. You can easily take higher horse power I-4s And V6s. Off the line you must spin the wheels a little to keep up. But once you get to about 65-70mph you'll hit 110 in a heartbeat. I had the car up to about 128mph, and it had minimal rattling and still handled beautifully.
And of course you get all the goodies with it, leather/power/heated seats, power sunroof, tilt steering, cruise control, power/heated mirrors, AC, power locks, 4 wheel disk with ABS brakes, 15 inch Speedline wheels, 195/55 15 VR tires, fog lights, and the stock radio receives TV stations! How can you beats this? In its time this was the car to have.
In my car, I re-did the audio system and lowered it about an inch and a half in front and rear. I got springs imported from UK. Exhaust and intake also. (Guesstimate about 160Hp) I wish that Peugeot would come back to the states, I would love a new 406 coupe.
