Summary:

Good long distance cruiser but watch the repair bills

Faults:

Distributer.

All gearbox linkages.

Clutch.

Clutch cable.

Heater matrix.

Blower motor.

Dash lights.

Electric sunroof mechanism.

Brake discs warped.

Handbrake cable.

Brake pipes corroded.

Front wheel bearings.

Sundry oil gaskets and water hoses.

General Comments:

In addition to the list of things going wrong there are also the persistant oil leaks, oil coming up through the air intake, even though all the breather hoses etc have been replaced, and the clouds of blue smoke from the exhaust.

It starts when IT feels like it, and not before.

This car has been recovered by the breakdown services 11 times in 12 months.

The brake discs warp faster than a plastic plate in a microwave and the body feels like it's made from baked bean tins (or even reycled Citroen AX's) but...

I love it because it is the the most comfortable car I have ever owned, it handles superbly for such a large car and will keep pace with my friend's 106.

So would I buy another French car?, would I heck, Stuttgart here I come.

Summary:

Good performance for low insurance (trust me I'm 21-22)

Faults:

Usual oil leaks, spark plug changes etc that old cars have.

Had a big problem starting, it had no power and would stall instantly.. This was fixed simply by checking and tightening the carb.

Brakes sometimes seem soggy and unresponsive (even though brakes themselves are in good condition) - but who needs brakes???..

General Comments:

A good car, that handles well for its size. The engine is quite powerful, for such low insurance.. You can beat a lot of cars off the lights.. (Best to fit Bosch Super 4 Sparks as it makes a big difference).

Fuel economy could be a lot better as it drinks fuel at 75-80mph (under 30mpg) but can be nearly 45mpg on long runs (60-70mph)..

Peugeot Express Fit dealers are brilliant, you take the car in for an oil change and they sort out other little problems for you free of charge (you may not know you had them).. Very good indeed..

It's a very good car, but I have problem with my car's brake. even I changed the brake pads. but the car never stop good.

Summary:

Pretty Damned Quick

Faults:

Leaking radiator (replaced).

Leaking coolant pipe (replaced) - engine gets v.hot.

Rear caliper seized (replaced).

Sunroof stuck shut (not bothered to fix).

Air conditioning temperamental.

Central locking stopped working (new solenoid).

Engine misfiring (coil replaced).

Lots of faults to non-important (generally electrical) items. Only fault to affect the engine was the broken ignition coil. Reliability not bad considering the engine is taken to 7000rpm on a daily basis - oil and water consumption very low. Recommend that fully synthetic oil 5/40 is used and engine is not thrashed until it is warm!

General Comments:

Performance excellent - very very very very very fast if prepared to drive at 4000 to 7000 rpm all of the time.

Handling beats most other cars on the road. More traction than any other car I've experienced.

Petrol consumption 30mpg.

Avoid 4x4 or catalyst (post 92 models) because they're much slower.

Not particularly cheap to run (but do you really care if you are reading this?)

I have a strange fault with my MI-16 in that it has a tendancy to hesitate for a split second every now and then, could this be the coil too?

Overall the MI-16 is a reasonable car and is certainly fast if driven at the higher rev range. However very poor build quality and sluggish acceleration below 3-4000rpm prevent it from being anything more.

Struggling to think of anything that has gone wrong - headlight bulb went.....

General Comments:

Wonderful practical car, gives 50 MPG and cruises the motorways happily above the legal limit. Loads of space to chuck in the kitchen sink as well as the kids, dogs and granny.
