1999 Dodge Durango review from North America
"Junk"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
We have been told we need a new engine due to poor maintenance on the vehicle. We took our Durango out of the shop and drove it home, since this time it will not stay running. We had to have the oil pan gasket change at 14000 miles, and were told this gasket was made too small for the oil pan. I asked them at this time why they were not doing a recall on the gasket and the representative could not give me any answer. We are hearing that several people are having this same issue, and we feel that something needs to be done about this.
General comments?
We bought this vehicle to pull our travel trailer, and were told by our sales representative we would have no problem doing that with this vehicle.
On one of our family outings is when the engine light came on for the first time, and we had no oil pressure. So we pulled into a gas station and checked the oil. The dip stick was bone dry. We kept stopping and putting oil in the motor till we got back home, and took to the dealer, and that's when we were told about the oil pan gasket being made too small this vehicle. And now we are being told we need a new engine and we have to pay for it. We are very upset about this. And don't feel this is in anyway our fault. We took care of this vehicle, it was parked for the first 3 winters we had it. Our friends would ask us why we are parking a 4 wheel drive vehicle for the winter and we told them because we want it to last us for a long time and still look good. We never paid this much money for a vehicle before our Durango, and now we are so sorry we did.
