1997 Peugeot 406 Coupé V6 Pack review from Switzerland
"Simply the most beautiful Coupé this side of a Maserati"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The Coupé features doors inclined by 4° to the inside to facilitate closing. The hinge on the driver side door (left) keeps coming unscrewed and had to be replaced once.
Exhaust rusted through (probably due to salt in winter, a normal thing in Switzerland).
Amplifier had to be replaced.
All in all, I would say I had to get little done, considering the car's age.
General comments?
Best things first. This must be the most beautiful affordable production car at the moment. I simply can't stop taking in the perfect lines Pininfarina designed for the Coupé.
The inside is taken 1:1 from the limousine, which is a bit sad.
The manual gearshift works well, but the lever travels a bit long. For a 200+hp car, one would expect a more precise shifter.
The engine is not very sporty at the low RPMs I keep it at to conserve fuel. When you push it past 3000, however, she screams.
The rear seats are remarkably comfortable for a Coupé and even headroom is ample. The drawback is that the rear seats are 2 singles, therefore not allowing the car to seat five.
What keeps surprising me is the sheer size of the trunk. It rivals the trunk of many mid-size limousines, leaving that of most Coupés far behind.
