1997 Peugeot 406 SRi 2.0 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing I can remember.

General Comments:

34,000 miles so far, from new.

Very nice to drive, with enough performance and handling to make it fun.

1997 Peugeot 406 LX 1.8 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

1. The digital odometer light has fused.

2. For no apparent reason have had to input the security code on the stereo 3 times during the first 2 years.

3. Uneven tire wear (had to replace one tire) - reason given was that the car hit the curb too many times while parking!

Interesting point on the tyre wear. My brother in law's 1996 Executive TD (1.9) suffers the same problem. Reason given is "they all do that sir. It's a characteristic"

The problem is, it's an expensive characteristic as the outside edges of the front tyres go completely bald after about 12,000 miles, even though the car is driven gently. Tracking has been checked by dealer and two independent tyre centres and proclaimed okay.

1997 Peugeot 406 LX 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Currently on my 4th stereo - all replaced without question which is nice, but it would be nice if they didn't keep failing. One or two minor bits of trim have come adrift.

General Comments:

All in all more than pleased with the car and believe me I give them some stick!!

1997 Peugeot 406 LX 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Steering wheel replaced under warranty - manufacturing fault. Front tyre wear excessive. Wiper blades failed after less than 1 year.

General Comments:

Nice comfortable quiet family car. Average performance. Economy also average.

1997 Peugeot 406 GLX Estate 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Rear dealer sticker didn't and fell off - thats' all!

General Comments:

Vastly better quality than the 405, it is in a completely different league.

Excellent handling, ride comfort, superb digital air-con and good, powerful stereo.

Loads of room and good economy.

Just wish Peugeot would give the engine a bit more power and fit the car with standard alloys - for £18,800 I think they shouldn't be a £600 option.

1997 Peugeot 406 V6 3.0 V6 petrol from UK and Ireland

General Comments:

I have just got this vehicle and felt it was important to let you know that it's the most entertaining family car I've ever had.

The interior is a truly relaxing environment with loads of well built goodies to make your day brighter. There is a Jag-like ambiance, with the striped stitching on the leather, an impressive cruise control, good quality sounds with CD.

V6 engine is very refined and will do 0-60 in 7.5 seconds.

A thing of joy.

How does a 3 litre V6 194bhp do 0-60 in 7.5secs? I got my SRi Turbo (150bhp) to do 0-60 in 7.7secs! I think you need to let someone who knows how to drive time the 0-60!
