1997 Pontiac Grand Prix gtp review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Would not come out of park, dealer had to drag it out of the garage and then tow it. The heads up display works when it wants to. The radio would do the same thing, I found a wire loose behind the radio. Developed up fluid leak at 18000 miles that the dealer could not fix, they kept putting dye in the engine oil several times to find it a different dealer told me there was a tsb for the rear main seal, I know the first dealer looked at this because they left the bellhousing shield off, which is why the starter sounded louder. The dealer also left me a nice set of long neck needle nose pliers under the hood. all five grandprixs in the neighborhood have the headlight problem and all the interior panels hanging loose due to cheap quality push in fasteners. The fluid leak turned out to be a coolant leak, it was a dificult leak to find, pontiac has at least one tsb saying to replace the intake manifold to fix the problem, but who pays for it. Unfortunately my daughter totaled it with 30,000 miles on it. I just bought another one identical to it, and am talking to the insurance company about buying the wreck to fix all the electrical problems with the second car.
