1983 Oldsmobile 98 review from North America
"Big, comfortable, and a great first car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Driver's side window went down, but not back up.
Automatic locks randomly stopped working.
Burned a little oil.
General comments?
This was my first car, and I must say, it was a great one. My grandpa gave it to me when I got my driver's license and he had taken good care of it. It had low miles (can't quite remember what though) and the body and interior were in great shape. The car ran great.
In the morning it had some trouble starting and would shake a little while idling for about 10 minutes.
The handling was great, except in the rain.
This was definitely one big car. Nobody got in my way. It was worth the extra money in gas just for that.
The reason I'm giving it such a low performance rating is because for a V8, it didn't have a lot of pick up. It was obviously a heavy car, but it took a while to get it to freeway speeds.
It was also very comfortable. I almost never wanted to leave the car when I reached my destination just because the seat was so comfortable.
Due to the fact that the handling was bad in the rain, I unfortunately lost control and crashed into the center divider and ended up facing traffic in the left lane. But I walked away from it because it was such a big car.
