1987 Volvo 240 DL review from North America
"One of the best car models ever built for 25 years"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Radiator, alternator, water pump, wheel bearings, regular wear and tear. Big suprise was the air mass meter which is critical and expensive, most annoying has been the instrument cluster which has this electric speedometer which has failed and also some other components like temp guage and odometer at diff. times. I bought a used cluster and patched it up.
General comments?
This is a tough truck and I love it. The manual trans is rare in a wagon and it is a very stiff but solid 5 spd, and is a lot more fun than the automatic since this is a heavy box and I can get pretty good mileage still. Someone "keyed" my paint 3 yrs. ago and not a speck of rust except the spare tire well. The mechanical simplicity of this car makes it economical and reliable.
