1993 Ford Thunderbird LX review from North America
"Junk it before it swallows your wallet!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Head gasket blew at 93,000 miles. Ford said only the 94 and 95 models had recalls so I replace the motor. $3,000 w/18 month unlimited mile warranty thru Cloverleaf Engines. (Better than the original!!)
Transmission went out a 143,000 miles, replaced, cost $600 (friend did it in the alley)
Headlight wiring harness caught fire just after the warranty expired due to being smashed between the radiator and the mount. Ford said they woudnt fix it untill I threatend w/a law suit and stop payment on my loan. Then they did a hack job anyway.
Front suspension replaced 5 times. Now it is completely shot and unrepairable. I just keep driving it.
Turn signal assembly melted 4 times, head light switch melted 3 times, fog lights stopped working after warranty expired. Driver seat kept ripping in the same place, by the lever, replaced 2 times.
Water pumps, alternator, ect. to numerous to count.
General comments?
What a peice of junk. The 3.8L motor is to weak to pull the car w/the air on. The alternater is to small to run all accessories at the same time while using your head lights. I would not recommend a t-bird to anyone. It's a good thing they stopped production. Oh, one more thing, the climate control flashed on and off, but works great and the car has started every day for 11 years, even when it was 20 below and I left it in the driveway! and my headlights finally stopped working altogether so I bought a new car.
