1987 Yugo 45 A review from UK and Ireland
"Better than you think!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rust on rear tailgate.
Locks froze in winter.
Needed new battery.
General comments?
As my very first car my Yugo wasn't
exactly the ultimate in stylish mean
machine transport.
However, it was bloody reliable (never
broke down once!), really cheap to run
and good fun.
It was known as a Yug as the O was
missing from the back!
It handled like a cross channel ferry (
ie:rubbish), and had the accelerative
power of my Dad's lawnmower, but as a
first set of wheels it was fine. It
even achieved 103 mph (on the speedo)
downhill on the M1 once, factor in 10%
speedo error and that's still 93!!
My Dad was given it as back payment on
rent and ran it on unleaded for ages
before realising it only took leaded
petrol!!
