1994 Cadillac DeVille Base review from North America

The exterior moldings and trim were constantly coming loose and falling off.

The leather seats were of poor quality and exhibeted wear early in the life of the car.

The seating was under upholstered causing discomfort on long trips.

The manufacturer only offered a basic AM/FM stereo cassette in this model. The sound system left a lot to be desired.

The suspension developed squeaks at 46,000 miles. Subsequently the handling became sloppy warranting the front struts to be replaced.

I have owned more than twenty Cadillacs over the years and can say with out a doubt that this is the most cheaply put together one that I have had.

The only redeeming feature about the 94 base De Ville is the 4.9 liter engine. This has been a well designed motor since it was first introduced in the 1991 Cadillac models. Although not as powerful as the North star,this engine is easy on fuel,low on maintenance and delivers the necessary power required for the weight of this vehicle.

Premium fuel is recommended for the 4.9 liter, however I have always used 87 octane without any performance or detonation problems.

I now own a 95 Cadillac Concours. My advise to anyone shopping for a mid 90's Cadillac sedan is simply this : test drive the 94 Concours and then the base model De Ville.The choice will be obvious.
