1974 Mercury Montego MX Brougham review from North America
"So many memories wrapped up in this car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing yet.
General comments?
My Dad bought this car new for my Mother for her Mother's Day Gift.
Traded in a 1965 Impala SS and got a $700 Trade in!
The engine and Interior were rebuilt in 1991, as well as a re-paint.
Sold the car in December 1996 for $1100
to make a down payment on a 97 F150 they still have.
Kid they sold it to did not drive it much, but also didn't take care of it.
I bought it back in April 2003 for $100 because it had quit running. The kid didn't know how to adjust points and the carb float had sunk and was flooding the engine. Had it running in about 30 minutes.
The motor is still strong and doesn't leak or burn any oil leading me to believe the kid didn't put many miles on it. However the seats are ripped up, the paint job is failing, and it deteriorated in his care.
Will keep car for as long as I am around.
