2002 Pontiac Sunfire review from North America
"Very poor choice; unreliable"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
- Brakes constantly make a grinding sound, even though have been replaced and adjusted twice; mechanics say there is nothing
wrong with them. I feel this brake problem has affected my tires as front tires have been replaced two times in two years. ($700 for brakes and $1000 for tires)
- ABS kicks in on most stops, even dry pavement at slow speeds; again, mechanics say there is nothing wrong with them
- fuel pump went while driving ($990 to replace)
- wheel bearing had to be replaced '
at 80000K ($375)
- all four shocks and shock mounts had to be replaced at 75000 Ks ($1500; this car is only driven on pavement)
- new problem this week (Sept/05) ; haven't had it checked out yet by dealer. The interior light won't shut off when car is turned off; radio screen displays "calibrate" and radio or CD player won't work; air bag light stays on all the time; when the car starts none of the dash lights come on anymore. Sounds like it may be a sensor problem. By the history of this vehicle, probably will not be cheap.
- Will never buy a Sun fire again. Still owe $10000 for the car loan so can't even trade it in
- The car always sounds like its going to fall apart at any moment (banging noises, clunking, rattling, etc...)
- fuel gauge isn't always accurate (IE, put $20 gas in and the gauge reads 1/4 tank; other times may show 1/2 tank for $20 gas...weird!!
I never really know how much gas is in it!!!
