1996 SAAB 900 Cabriolet SE review from UK and Ireland
"Good image let down by dynamic flaws"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Roof has broken twice.
Drivers sun visor has snapped off.
Front badge has been stolen.
8 tyres in 19 months.
Exhaust had to be replaced.
Discs and pads all round replaced (general wear and tear I guess)
CD autochanger jammed.
Gearstick display pops out.
SID display fading.
Alarm system broke.
Some hoses burst in the engine bay.
General comments?
This car is a nice car, contrary to all the things that have gone wrong with it.
I am sure this is because I have thrashed it since I have had it. This car has 226 16 inch wheels, bodycoloured grills, bumpers, lowered 60mm.
The roof has broken twice, first time it cost me £1500 to fix. It is still broken now and I will have to fork out another £800 before next summer. As a first car though it's nice.
One bad thing is that it is not fast. If you want a fast car, buy a SAAB Turbo. I often race my car, but get beaten by a lot of cars. Though my car is faster than a BMW 320 Coupe!
The handling in dry is OK. In the wet it understeers, but it's controllable.
Saabs have a good image and you can get girls driving one, and girls think you are cool.
