1999 Ford Taurus EX review from North America
"yuck!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I bought the car the A/C dryer line was rusted into. I replaced it and A/C now works.
Rusted steel heater core lines behind engine, I replace them.
I have noticed many factory punch holes on the shock towers that allow road weather to get into the engine compartment. I patched these holes to stop this problem.
Now that it is winter, I have learned this car doesn't produce heat well... I have flushed the coolant and flushed the core twice. heat OK for a short time, but now is acting up again. After a third heater core flush I have noticed the heater works sometimes. It is my suspicion that either the water pump is defective or some type of mechanical / electrical gating system in the heater core is intermittent. Things I intend to do is check coolant pressure going into the heater core and coming out. Check for relationship to heater performance and engine rpm, thus concluding a possible coolant pump problem.
