2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback LS review from North America
"Reliable and amusing little wagon"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Mass airflow sensor at 15,000 miles.
New Brake Rotors Front : 25k miles R:35k miles.
General comments?
Performance is good with the 2.4 160 hp four and the automatic (still would like a stick). Passing at speed is a breeze.
Cargo room is great and there are quite a few storage compartments, especially under the rear cargo compartment.
Seats are uncomfortable for long periods and cabin is noisy (wind and road noise), especially over 60 mph. Cabin feels cheap in some places (material, feel, finish) Audio system isn't bad.
Small fuel tank and so-so fuel economy. Handling not as good as my Focus, although entertaining. Go for a Ralliart Sportback if you can find one ( only about 3000 Sportbacks total in the US, good luck)
I have used the car as a courier driver for the past year and have put 73k miles on it since new. Very reliable car, really changed my thinking on Mitsubishi products. No major issues so far, although model-specific parts can be a little pricey and tough to find due to the rarity of this model.
A very good car, I would recommend to anyone. I'd like to see it come back in Evolution form
